Barney Miller - Season 2

Capt. Barney Miller (Hal Linden) is the kind of cop we'd all like to meet. He somehow manages to maintain order at New York City's 12th Precinct in Greenwich Village and remains level-headed while dealing with a group of off-the-wall inner-city detectives: Det. Phil Fish (Abe Vigoda), Det. Ron Harris (Ron Glass), Det. Stanley Wojohowicz (Max Gail ), Det. Nick Yemana (Jack Soo), and Det. Sgt. Chano Amenguale (Gregory Sierra). One of Miller's detectives is an inveterate gambler; another attends Renaissance philosophy conventions for fun; and a third spends most of his time daydreaming about being an author. This season's blotter is full of highlights: The precinct deals with potential layoffs; a man threatens to blow up the station unless he can speak with President Nixon; marijuana held as evidence suspiciously disappears; and Capt. Miller gets an attractive job offer that would mean a move to Florida. The three-disc DVD set includes all 22 episodes from the second season (1975-76), with guest stars Linda Lavin, Adam Arkin, David L. Lander, and Charlotte Rae.

Now this is television. It was shows like Barney Miller that have made most sitcom produced in the last ten years unwatchable. Smart, wonderfully written, filled with characters who are rounded (and often very quirky) individuals, good-hearted, and above all very, very funny - this is sterling quality. It's been a long time since I got to see this show (why isn't it more widespread in syndication anymore?), and I doubt I ever got to see the uncut versions, and it's a joy. I've missed these people! The packaging is nice: a narrow slipcase, two discs per inside holder, and fun images on the discs. My only quibble would be a lack of special features, but I'm a special feature junkie and just need to deal with it. Now bring on Season 3 with the hash brownies and the werewolf!

I loved this show as a kid & I sill laugh! Wojo, Harris & Barn, they don't make TV like this anymore! It is about time it is on DVD.

Barney Miller is one of the all time classics in sit-coms. Not only does it capture the human condition, but it does it with such a flare, you are moved from a serious moment to a comic relief without missing a beat. The men of the ole 1-2 blend comedy in it's best form. One second Barney has a strait face when sending a team out on an assignment, the next second Yemana lightens the situation with an off the wall comment.
I think it is the mix of the varied ethnic, and social back grounds that make the show a hit.

Well done one, and all!!!
