While the quality of ABC Entertainment's series of DVD releases from the archives of the German television series Beat -- Beat -- Beat has been exemplary, they seem a bit skimpy on content, and this disc, taken from a January 1967 appearance by the Hollies, feels especially egregious -- the group performs only three songs and a short, untitled blues-based jam before the disc comes to a close, not quite eleven minutes after it began. But this release is still a boon for Hollies fans, preserving a well photographed and recorded performance from the Graham Nash/ Allan Clarke edition of the group. Beat Beat Beat: The Hollies has been transferred to disc in its original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the black and white image is sharp and well-detailed, showing only brief flaws and looking remarkably strong for its age. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo, retaining the original monophonic sound mix, and the sound is as impressive as the image, with the band's harmonies sounding clear and bright and the guitars full-bodied. The performance is in English (except for some brief German announcements) and subtitles or multiple language options are not included. No bonus features are included on this DVD, but the performance and the quality of the archival materials are good enough that die-hard Hollies fans will certainly want to give this a look.
