Beauty and the Beast is widely considered the best animated Disney feature of the studio's 1980s/1990s renewal of the form. Based on the classic French fairy tale, it tells the story of Belle (voiced by Paige O'Hara), an intelligent young woman scorned by her townspeople for being a bookworm, weary of fighting off the advances of the arrogant Gaston (Richard White), and dreaming of escape. When her father gets lost in the woods and captured by the forbidding Beast (Robby Benson), a once-handsome prince turned into a monster by a witch, Belle goes off to rescue him. Taken with her, the Beast agrees to release Belle's father if she agrees to stay with him forever. Initially repulsed, Belle soon finds much to appreciate in the Beast's hidden, tender nature. The Beast's servants -- a clock (David Ogden Stiers), a teapot (Angela Lansbury), and a candlestick (Jerry Orbach) -- see Belle as their salvation: if the Beast and a woman fall in love before his 21st birthday, he will be free from the curse. The songs are first-class, the tale is told with sincerity but not sentimentality, and the characters of Belle and the Beast, complex individuals who defy stereotyping and change over the course of the story, are more three-dimensional than in most live-action movies. The eye-popping animation is beautifully rendered, and Beauty and the Beast certainly deserves its place amongst Disney's animated classics. In 2002, a special 89-minute edition of the film was released in IMAX theaters with the addition of a newly animated song, "Human Again.""

i love this movie im so glad i got it i love the music and message, she is my fave princess
Great Disney movie...love watching it in new BLUERAY!
Beauty and the Beast is a timeless classic that anyone will love. I cannot wait to get my copy with all new special features. This movie was definitely worth waiting over 7 years for!
This movie is the best ever! It is now in great condition. get it while you can!!!!!!!!
I've loved this film ever since I was a little girl, and every time I watch it I see something else to appreciate. But the success of the film, if anywhere, has to lie in its musical numbers. Even now a favourite past time of my family is inventing new verses for the 'Gaston Song', which is a superb comedy number. Its characters, Belle and the Beast, are more than your typical 2D hero and heroine, and you can really believe in their love. It's a masterpiece!
A really great heart-warming story. Great for all ages.
This is a classic, no other way of putting it. The story is sweet and simple in a fairy tale sense. A movie with something for the whole family, from little kid to teen to adult.
This has been my favorite Disney movie since I saw it in theatres for the first time 11 years ago. I was only 9 at the time, but I knew this movie was special, and it has remained so since. Seeing on IMAX was a treat! This movie is amazing, the characters, the plot, the music, all are wonderful!
You cannot get a more perfect movie than Beauty and the Beast. The animated ''cinematography'' is wonderful. I'd forgotten how beautiful a film this is until I went and saw the Imax version last winter. It should make an excellent DVD. The story is well-crafted; the characters, memorable; the soundtrack, awesome. And although it's a family film, you could never call it a ''kid's movie.'' I enjoy the movie more as an adult than I did going to see it as a 12-year-old when it first came out. It stands right up there with the greatest romantic movies of all time.
Imagine an animated tale teaching us that the spirit of humanity is embedded in the beauty from within. Beauty and the Beast is ageless in its message. Everybody young and old should put this movie on their list of ''must sees.'' Then perhaps we can make this a kinder gentle world in doing so. I loved this movie -- and so will you. This is definitely one of Disney's best.
Whenn this movie came out in 1991 I loved it. I was really excited to hear that it was comming to the big I-Max screen. I saw it and loved it as well. Can't wait for my DVD to arrive.
I SAY: WOW! THIS MOVIE'S BEAUTIFUL AND NICE. I AM MEXICAN, I LIVE IN MEXICO IN THIS MOMENT.I SPEAK IN SPANISH AND ENGLISH. SOMEONE WANTS TO TALK WITH ME ABOUT MOVIES?
I think this movie is the best!!!!!!
this is such a beautiful love story it makes me cry every time. one of the best movies ever...animated or not. the story is so beautifully written you wonder how it could even be animation. this movie is so perfect and can be enjoyed by everyone...young and old and should always be endeared by the heart. this mesmerizing classic will always remind us how true beauty comes from within.
Favorite princess, glad I bought it and first time in a while I bought a movie brand new. It felt so magical opening that package! Thanks B&N!
So bummed. I bought this back in February to watch with my 2 year old. Well it has sat on my book shelf until we decided to watch it tonight but it would not play. It had a Crack in it. Never thought to check it out when I got it and it's to late to send it back. Learned my lesson! Open everything.
Even when I was a child I sensed something was wrong with this movie. I'm not a kid anymore, and I know the original story now. In the original version Bell's father was a successful merchant. He'd been returning from a business trip when he encountered the Beast's home. Bell has several sisters, all who care about nothing but clothes, parties, and boys. Bell was a sweet natured and inexperienced girl. The beast was cursed by an evil sorceress. When human he'd been strong, noble, and a good ruler. The original story was a coming of age story, where Bell learns to love the Beast. In this movie the prince was an arrogant and heartless man. He was punished by a beautiful enchantress. Also the princes's servant's shared his curse, they suffered for his crimes. Bell's father was a tiny, weak and crazy man. He wasn't a merchant but an inventor, creating useless inventions. Bell was an only child, and already knew what she wanted Bell's whole state of mind was about escaping the small town she saw as a trap. Gaston wasn't in the original version. He was added to show marriage as a trap. To have Bell shocked and outraged over the concept of being his wife. To show the other girls in the town as silly and stupid for wanting to be his. Gaston also has several scenes with other guys, showing them all as crude, plotting and disgusting. The Beast's scenes where quite few. Most of the story was about Bell and the servants, Bell and her father, Bell and Gestan. The Beast slowly becomes exactly what Bell was looking for, at the end he physically becomes her perfect match. This movie wasn't really Beauty and the Beast, it mainly just Beauty. The animation and songs were spectacular, but PC destroyed the story.
I feel swindled with the wording of this seller. It was sealed in it's original package. However, the Disney tape seal was not on the DVD box. There was a DVD sliding around inside the package. When I opened it you can tell the DVD is copied. There is no insert or Disney Reward points. This is false advertisement and very dishonest. I was expecting new from the manufacturer, not new for the seller's DVD burner.
My favorite movie of all time!!! This is truly the best Disney movie! It is Disney's most acclaimed movie and the first ever animated movie to be nominated for an Academy Award. The music is beautiful, the animation gorgeous, and the story sweet and classic. Also, the morals don't judge a book by its cover and true beauty comes from within are there from the very begging. There's also very good role models: Belle is sweet, kind and caring and learns to love the Beast for who he is, not for what he looks like, and the Beast is mean and coarse at the begging, but becomes sweet, compassionate and loving at the end, and is the exact opposite of Gaston, who is handsome but rude, selfish and conceited, and who in any other fairytale would be the prince. The best movie ever!!!!!!!
