This 60-minute installment of TV's Bell Science Series was originally telecast in color on January 26, 1959. Dr. Frank Baxter plays Dr. Linguistics, who finds himself in a Wonderland of voluntary ignorance. The Mad Hatter (Hans Conried) and his conspirators have hatched a scheme to blow up the alphabet and get rid of all languages. Little Judy (Cheryl Callaway), who dreamed up this scenario while doing her homework, turns to Dr. Linguistics for help. In immensely entertaining fashion, the films combines live action (directed by Richard Salkin) and animation (courtesy Friz Freleng) to show how languages developed and to point on their importance to the overall scheme of things. Guest stars include linguist Dr. Hans Karath, Indian lore specialist Reginald Laubin, and jazz musician Shorty Rogers.
