Overview

The fourth screen adaptation of Anna Sewell's classic novel is, in some ways, the most faithful and accomplished. Screenwriter and director Caroline Thompson recounts the life of Black Beauty, an aging, handsome stallion living in Victorian England. The film is narrated by Alan Cumming as the voice of Black Beauty, who spends a happy childhood on a rambling country estate before being ravaged by illness and surviving a horrible stable fire. However, the worst is yet to come as Black Beauty's new owners subject him to life as a horse for rent and, later, as a taxi puller in working-class London, before he can retire in peace. The original novel was written to draw attention to the cruel treatment of animals in 1877 England, and the issue's continued relevance today adds poignancy and gravity to this affecting tale. The film is episodic, as was the book, and the topic is handled with sensitivity and care.

The story of a stallion with a unique mark on his forlock, captures my heart and holds it. This is not only a movie, but a live story as he tells a difficult life for horses of that time, a time which he was part of. The love of this story runs through one's veins and into thy heart as if you feel his pain. I am honored to share this review with you for I hope it will warm you heart as it did with me.

This movie was sooo good; it has to be one of my favorite horse movies of all time.I love how detailed all the scenes are, especially the ones with Beauty and Ginger in the pasture together. My favorite scene has to be the one at the end where Joe and Beauty are reunited. I was almost brought to tears at that scene, it was so beautiful. This is an awesome movie for all horse lovers world wide.

This movie, based on the classic novel written by Anna Sewell in 1977, is a family classic, that is welcomed into hearts of gold. This movie fits the book so well and it has wonderful splender of emotions that are created so precisely that you cannot tell that the book was ever transfered onto the screen! This movie is one of the best movies I have ever seen and definitely deserves a place on everyone's movie rack! You will cry, laugh, and yell for joy as this movie brings out the true splendor of England in the early 1900's, and it shall bring Black Beauty into the freedom of wide open plains. The movie is AWESOME and buyers should buy this movie!!!!!!!

Every body has seen or read Black Beauty once. It is a movie about a horse who goes through misstreatment buy his owners. Black Beauty had gone through pulling buggies, being ridden for entertainment, and used for rent. This was a really good movie and I reccomend it.

I have seen that Black Beauty Warner home video and I think it is a cool one. I didnt like the part where Black Beauty fell down when he couldnt pull the heavy load. I think Quarter Horses can be black. This is A great movie!
