Overview

The British sitcom Black Books largely took place in a rundown London bookshop owned by Bernard Black (Dylan Moran), a man with two prominent character flaws: He hated people, and he loved booze. On the morning after one of his all-night benders, Bernard was surprised to learn that he had drunkenly hired former accountant Manny Bianco (Bill Bailey) as a sales clerk. Forced to keep his promise, Bernard was amazed to discover that the personable Manny was a natural-born salesman -- and thus yet another Odd Couple TV relationship came into being. Originally broadcast from September 29 to November 3, 2000 over Britain's Channel 4, Black Books was considered for revival.

A funny series about a guy who runs a book store. If you love British comedy then you must check out this series!

Bernard Black the lead character is a misanthropic, antisocial, eccentric, lackadaisical, jaded, over controlling, intelligent but unwise, foul mouthed man-child book store owner and overseer whose contempt for life is only outmatched by his contempt for patrons. A man of truly simple pleasures, being sloshed on wine and a good jam on some toast. Winner of 2 BAFTA awards for best situational comedy, sorely overlooked by the Brits this series catered for US release and I will happily be replacing my region 2 set with the NTSC US import.

God, it is impossible for me to not laugh when watching this show. Dylan Moran is hilarious. Bill Bailey is a lovable funny guy. They go together amazingly. The show is full of a million great moments.

My daughter stumbled across a clip of this on-line. Little did we know it was to become a family favorite, our discs are almost worn out from continual use and quotes from it are now a part of family's permanent lexicon. I can't say enough about it, it is hilarious!!! Last Christmas we bought five copies and gave them out with bottles of wine &quot the perfect accompaniment&quot trying to spread our new found love!

I recently stumbled across this after finding out that Dylan Moran had a show before Shaun of the Dead and Run Fat Boy Run. I absolutely loved it!!! It's about this crazy drunk bookshop owner, the bearded fellow that he hires (who turns out to be his best friend even if he denies it) and the slightly crazy girl next door. The whole show is basically all about the daily things that happen in the shop. What made this show awesome was that it was completely different than anything that I have ever seen. Every moment was hilarious. It's a definite must see if you liked Shaun of the Dead and Run Fat Boy Run!!!

This show was recommended to me by a friend. I went out and bought the whole series, watched all of the episodes (sadly, there are only 18) and wished for more. Basically this is a show about Bernard Black, independent bookstore owner, who does nothing but read books, drink wine and yell at his customers. As a former bookstore employee, I could certainly relate, but anyone who cares for smart (or British) comedy will enjoy this.

Black Books is a little known gem in the US--Extremely funny Brit humor--sometimes a little raunchy but overall hilarious! The characters are so endearing , who wouldn't love them?? Reminds a little of Faulty Towers-- Cannot fathom why this show is no longer on TV!?!
