Overview

Chuck Russell's supernatural thriller Bless the Child comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary recorded by director Russell and special effect creator Joel Hynek, interviews with the cast and crew, the theatrical trailer, and television promotional spots. Whatever one thinks of the film, this is a very good disc from Paramount.

I was unable to find one drop of originality in this movie. It was a paint-by-numbers horror movie with the proper amount of religion themes and self-sacrificing characters. The single high note was Rufus Sewell, who has an intensity that even the horrible dialogue and predictable plot couldn't smash. This movie was in post production for 6 years before Basinger got it released.. maybe she should have let it die or go straight to video. :)
