Overview

Blow

Following the life of cocaine-trafficking pioneer George Jung in a way that recalls Martin Scorsese's Casino, Blow recounts the man's days from his 1950s childhood in Boston to his downfall in the 1980s. George (played by Johnny Depp) begins his life as the son of Fred (Ray Liotta), an earnest breadwinner, and Ermine (Rachel Griffiths), who frequently walks out on them in pursuit of a more fulfilling life. When George moves west to California in the late '60s, accompanied by best pal Tuna (Ethan Suplee), he becomes an entrepreneur in the marijuana business, which soon spreads to the East Coast as well, with girlfriend Barbara (Franka Potente) smuggling the product during her stewardess shifts. George is arrested in 1972 -- at which time Barbara dies of cancer -- but George finds a new ally in Diego (Jordi Molla), who proposes the idea that he become the American conduit for Colombian kingpin Pablo Escobar (Cliff Curtis). George flourishes in the heyday of the disco era, and falls for Mirtha (Penelope Cruz), a self-serving bombshell who eventually has a daughter with him. Trouble escalates as the FBI threatens to bring George and his crew down, while he desperately tries to be a stable parent to his young offspring. Blow also features Paul Reubens and Max Perlich in featured roles.

Blow is a great movie that isn't even very violent. It isn't gory or anything. My sister refuses to see it even though I swear to her its not gory (blood). Johnny Depp captures George Jung's mannerisms very well. A wryly funny movie.

This was a very good movie. Johnny Depp played the role of George Jung fantabulously. I've watched it atleast 8 times and still mesmerized . Good acting and storyline.

No other film in recent memory so effectivly captures the era in which it's set. Johnny Depp plays George Jung, the son of a working class New England family. Jung moves to the west coast in the mid 60s and with the aid of Tuna, his best friend he begins dealing pot. This leads to his eventual arrest as his operations spread to coast to coast. His stay in prison only results in him meeting Diego, whom convinces him to become a conduit in the cocaine trade. Jung introduces America to the highly powerful and very popular drug, which brought the disco scene to life. Jung made millions. Only to see his life come crashing around him after a series of arrests. Johnny Depp does an excellent job with this character, from his chic style to his very down to earth outlook, and ah yes they always present New England accent. The movie drives home the idea that drugs and crime do not pay, however when the movie ends you almost wish that they did in sympathy for Depps character.

Well this is the first DVD I have bought because I am a big Johnny Depp fan. He has appeared in other movies like What's Eating Gilbert Grape? and Nick Of Time, and Edward Scissorhands. I found out that this is a sad story about Drug Lord George Jung who lost everything in his life twice. This movie is good because of its allstar cast. This also shows the Paul Reubans can act besides in Comedies. I have no regrets about purchasing this movie. The Director even took out several of his favorite scenes to keep it around two hours. They are really great scenes that are in the DVD. The DvD also features commentary by The Director and the Actual George Jung himself.

If you liked Scarface, then you gotta see Blow. This is easily one of my favorite movies. I think it could make a cop , a parent, even a preacher feel bad for a drug dealer. All i gotta say is go get it.

Blow is a powerful movie about a drug kingpin that you cant help but love. I really felt his pain through this movie because his life is so trajic, and though some may say he brought it on himself, there are plenty of druglords whose fate was dying in velvet pajamas in a kingsize bed at the age of 85. This just may be Depp's greatest performance ever. This movie will make you want to cry. Excellent, a must see for anyone of the 80's/90's generation.

Blow was a great movie it was based on a true story of a drug kingpin and how his life started out as a small time pusher and progress into a big time drug smuggler. Johnny depp played the leading roll excellence. You most see this movie if you like alot of action.

Blow is an actual account of George Jung's life. It starts with George as a hard working New England youngster. Then it moves quickly to George's rebellious teenage and early twenties. Finally BLow moves into George Jung's life as a Drug lord. Johnny Depp is incredible as usual.Blow is definately a must the simple fact that it is mostly all truemakes the movie even more incredible.

Blow was a fantastic biopic drama based on the life and high times of George Jung, a drug kingpin involved with Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel. This story is tragic, not only the personal story of Jung (played wonderfully by Johnny Depp) but also the horrible social effects cocaine and other drugs had and are having on our society. If one wants to understand the genesis of the 70's bump in coke, this is the best you'll find.

For Johnny Depp this is definitley a big break through. This movie tells of a man named George Jung who decides that instead of just smoking marijuana maybe he should sell it too.I am not a big fan for movies like this but this is truly a fantastic movie worth all of the praise anyone can give. Johnny Depp has been blessed to be such a great actor and he shows tremendous talent in this movie. This movie is definitley wonderful and I recomend seeig it.
