Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Cree McCree
Season 4
When Angel Season 1 came out on DVD, fans had one small beef. They thought it should have been co-released with Buffy Season 4 in order to savor the crossover episodes between Angel (David Boreanaz) and the Slayer (Sarah Michelle Gellar). Well, the wait is over: The pair's doomed erotic reunion on Angel is foreshadowed by the "Pangs" Angel suffers on Buffy. And in a season marked by change, Buffy's vampire soul mate was far from her only loss. Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) also decamped to the spin-off. The werewolf Oz became an endangered species when Seth Green opted to make movies. Even Sunnydale High was left behind as Buffy and Willow entered college. Yet despite all these changes -- and a weak central arc involving an X-Files-style cabal of covert government demon hunters -- Season 4 delivered some of Buffy's best-ever episodes. Top of the list are "Hush," a dark fairy tale in which demons steal voices to silence screams; and "Restless," the season finale, which plants clues for the future in the REM movements of interlocking dreams. Both were written and directed by series creator Joss Whedon, whose pithy commentary digs deeper than on previous DVD releases. Seth Green has a last hurrah in the poignant "New Moon Rising," while the witty Buffy-and-Faith two-parter gives new meaning to the term "body double." Season 4 also boasts what many consider two of Buffy's worst-ever episodes: "Beer Bad" and "Where the Wild Things Are," both set (where else?) at frat-house parties. The Slayer gets a little sloppy, but hey, freshmen will be freshmen.

you have to get the fourth season. this season is okay, but you will enjoy it. if you have not watched buffy, start watching it now. i promise you will love it!if you do not have the 1,2, and 3 ones, get those too. you will like them.

The fourth season ,in my opinion, was one of the best seasons. I already own seasons 1,2, & 3,and can't wait till season 4 is released! Season 4 is a MUST HAVE if you're a buffy fan. Best epiosodes are ''Hush'' ''Restless'' ''New Moon Rising'' and ''Fear,Itself.'' I'm just counting the days till season 5 comes out, which in my opinion is the ultimate BEST season of buffy EVER!

Overall, season 4 was one of the best, it surpassed the first three seasons on so many levels, watching every character grow and change so much! Finally!(no offense to Angel), Buffy dated someone with a reflection!, Xander, odd jobs can't be that bad, but you have Anya so it's ok. Willow!, my favourite character, you let Oz go and foud Tara, i think it's great that you explored more than just your majick skills this season with her! Riley, super cute! lol,but overall, this season showed change and growth that was needed to show the difference from high school and giant snakes, to college and the initiave!.

This was a very very GREAT season of Buffy! I recommend to all Buffy fans out there to go out and buy it! There is great action, hilarious humor, and new characters! So wait are you waiting for? Go get it!

This season finds the Scooby Gang going to college. Xander branches out and becomes a contractor and his relationship with Anya solidifies itself. The characters expand and mature. The coolest episode was ''HUSH''. Spike receiving the chip in his head was excellant. Buffy needed someone in the future to love her like Angel loved her. Willow exploring her other side with Tara made the show more adult. Season three is by far the best and Season Seven would be second.

My Dad and I are HUGE buffy fans!!!!! we alrady own seasons 1 through 3 and have been savoring our last disk in our season 3 DVD collection. Season 4 is one of my favorite seasons because it takes you through the Gangs freshman year of collage experences, and beileve me they are not the normal things a person would come across in their first year in collage! The series is such a great sucess and it has its own speical charm & humor. Iam sad to see it end but I cant wait to own the whole series on DVD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, i never liked Riley that much either but still the 4th season ROCKED!! I mean its Buffy for cryin' out loud. So disreguard the guy ahead of me and buy the Boxset its definately worth the money. I'm workin' on gettin' every season on DVD (as they come out of course) ~*Laura*~ (Spike's biggest fan)

Hey guys, This season is awesome, it is the best!!

Riley is buffy's new boyfriend in season 4. He makes Angel look like Romeo. This season also has the villan named Adam. This character is so bogus! Spike is the only good thing about Season 4. I do not recommend it at all. Just wait until Season 5 comes out.

Why would Buffy fans recommend the undistinguished Fourth Season Boxset? They want to make sure that enough people buy it so the later and much improved seasons get their own boxsets as well. This reviewer is a Buffy fan who has seen every episode so far. The big problem with season 4 is Buffy's new boyfriend, Riley. I couldn't wait for him to die a gruesome death. It was indisputably difficult to create a better boyfriend for Buffy than Angel, but the character of Riley is dopey, dorky, and insincere. The acting of Marcus Blucas doesn't live up to the standard of the other principals on Buffy. His expression ranges from puppy-dog-eyed to beaten-puppy-dog-eyed. The Buffy powers-that-be did realize how bad a boyfriend he was, so they axed him partway through season 5 (and he didn't even receive the honor of a gruesome death). They realized that only one character could have some worthiness as a Buffy-boyfriend successor to Angel. Although there are some good episodes in season 4, they're not worth buying the box set. The fact that ''Hush'' was the only Emmy-nominated episode of Buffy should tell you that it was not a typical episode, and one episode is not worth buying the whole season. Re-runs of Buffy are currently playing on FX, two per weeknight; at that rate, they'll complete the whole series every two or three months. Record the good episodes yourself or ask a fellow Buffy fan. Don't bother buying the Buffy Fourth Season Boxset.

well i have to admit i think things started to get on the wrong foot after the season 3 finale. Buffy now has a new bf, Riley, who i thought was really annoying and selfish(look and watch closely at some of the episodes) and is definately not my fave character now that buffy and her friends have started college at the university of california sunnydale. as season 4 progresses some of the episodes become a little bit boring as usual and not as action packed as the first 3 seasons. Angel and Cordelia are now gone and Tara is introduced as well. they were some good episodes such as Hush and i thought the season finale was really weird and confusing. what was up with that. things would have been different if Angel and Cordelia were still there. As for the Spike and Buffy relationship progresses, i don't know if you people don't know that Buffy was ONLY using Spike to ease the pain of her returning from Heaven from the season 5 finale when she was battling Glory. As you can see Buffy and Spike was NOT a real coupl they only used each other for sexual pleasure and is much different that Buffy and Angel's relationship where they REALLY loved each other. not really the best season i hoped for.

I know the film was the starting point for the idea of the series but it is way better than the film. I started watching buffy when it first came onto T.V in the UK and i liked it so much i went out and ordered the box set the very next day my reasons for liking this television series so much was 1. the series goes way more indepth with the chareters making it interesting and eventful 2. the series makes you want to keep watching which is an important factor to any television programme 3. it has action, comedy, musicals (once more with feeling), romance, monsters and suspence it can make you laugh, cry and get angry all in one episode. Now that is good television. I've seen the final seires which is excellent and i reconmend all Buffy fans to go and buy it A.S.A.P. to see spike become a good man and Buffy get her happy ending shes been waiting for. I don't agree that season four is not as good as the rest because it has one of the best episodes on it (Hush) and its also the starting point for Willows adiction to magic this where she starts to unfold and develope her powers with Tara. Also secret goverment demon fighters is probably quite plorsable if you lived in a world of demons and vampires i think that the goverment conspirisy was quite a good idea for season 4.

Riley is the worst ever!!! I loved Angel and I loved OZ. I hate Riley, how did he last so long? All and all this was the worst season but it did have some good points. Even if it is the worst season I'm sill getting it . I LOVE BUFFY!!!!!!!!!
Guest More than 1 year ago
This season, I thought, was the funniest season. My favorite episode was ' Something Blue'. It was great! I am so glad that James Marsters (Spike) is a regular on the show now! My other favorite episode was ' Hush', but I will say, it was 'kinda gross. But this was I thought the funniest season, so far!

While the fourth season isn't the best, (mainly due to Riley and the fact that Buffy and Spike don't hook up) it's still very, very important season to have. Any Buffy fan should have this one and all the rest.
Guest More than 1 year ago
Season 4 of Buffy is not one of their better seasons but all buffy episodes are good. If you like all the other seasons its worth buying season 4 because the next seasons wont make sense without it. All Buffy The Vampire Slayer box sets are a necessary part of life. I would highly reccomend it especially if youve never watched the show.
Guest More than 1 year ago
buffy hasn't been the same ever since Angel left. I REALLY REALLY hate Riley!!! i don't like Tara cause Willow is meant to be with OZ. This was Not the best season.
Guest More than 1 year ago
Season Four has always been one of the more underrated seasons of Buffy The Vampire Slayer-- alot happens in this season Buffy meets Riley, Willow meets Tara in the classic episode ''Hush'', Faith returns in ''This Years Girl/Who Are You'', and the Big Bad for the season is Adam (whose origins are tied to season three if you read the comic books of Buffy--FYI-the spirit of the Mayor from season 3 possesses a demon and attacks the human soldier Adam thus beginning Maggie Walsh's desperate attempt to revive and save him--the season finale is easily on the best episodes ever (''Restless''). Season Four is simply on the best seasons this show had. For the first five seasons Buffy was brilliant!!
Guest More than 1 year ago
While season 4 was definitley my least favorite season (Riley annoyed me do no end, and I never accepted Tara because I still believe Willow was meant to be with Oz), it was still an excellent season. If all other Buffy years were 5 stars, Season 4 was a 4 star, not a 1 star or anything. Season 5 is the best, Glory was the coolest villian ever, but highlights like Hush make season 4 completley worth it.

After Seasons 1-3, this is probably one of the most disappointing seasons that ever came out. This is the season where i stopped watching religiously after i'd become hooked. The Hush Episode is pretty cool, and there are a few other good shows. I think the weak point is that buffy became entangled with another male character. There also tended to be a lot of dark brooding, which is pretty annoying when the thing i loved about buffy was her light hearted unbeatable attitude. Personally, i think this DVD set is a must have for the hardcore fan who enjoyed season 4, or for those who wish to continue their DVD collections. If you want a good introduction to Buffy, the early seasons are a much better choice. Luckily buffy eventually moved out of this gloomy out look, and away from riley, but that came a season and a half later. True i'll buy this regardless, but the average buyer should be aware.

This is my favorite season for a few reasons, Adam is the coolest character ever, the Initiative, and college. Go season 4!

i thought this season was wicked awesome. it was good to see some new faces and love interests and new scenery. i liked living conditions b/c it reminded me of when i had to share a room with my sister...hush...beer bad...and restless. this was one of the better seasons of buffy. ps- riley rocks!
