The two most striking scenes in this very striking movie are, firstly, the opening locker room sequence [underpinned by the hauntingly beautiful piano/flute/guitar/strings score which brings tears to my eyes] that transforms those meanspirited girls into playful little creatures and both highlights Carrie's isolation as she showers and sets the mood, probably not picked up on by most, of the sensual way she touches herself and her yearning for the hands and love of another; pay close attention to these scenes and that beautiful music and see if you too do not have a streaming face before this flight of joy is rudely brought to a halt when Carrie discovers she is menstruating, and the harshness of her reality again intrudes with the shock of a sudden blast of cold water. The other scene is that when, after Carrie is forced to kill her mother to save herself and Margaret dies slowly in both agony and bliss [her moaning is as much orgasmic release as that of the pain of the knife wounds], her mother's face in death is simply radiant with a peace and beauty that her strictured and unhappy life denied her. One cannot help but weep for the tragedy of Carrie and her mother - and cheer for the destruction of those people who tormented her so cruelly, which so many of us knew in that vainglorious clique-ridden world called High School. I wouldn't even bother to set eyes on that follow-up - it couldn't possibly hold a burnt match to this true original.

In grand operatic style, Brian De Palma brings to life the secret dreams of millions of outcast American teenagers in Stephen King's tale of a gawky Cinderella who ruins everybody's good time at the ball. Carrie (Sissy Spacek), the graceless daughter of a bible-thumping loony (Piper Laurie), puts up with countless indignities at home and at school. Of all the King horror novels that have been transfered to the screen, "Carrie" is the best. ("Christine", another parable about a nerdy high schooler who wreaks havoc, runs a close second). Specek is perfect in the title role her pale eyes and fragile frame capture all the elements of Carrie's complex personality--the awkward wallflower, the beauty she might have been, and the powerful avenger she ultimately becomes. De Palma's flashy technique looks more and more shopworn as the years go by, but he does know how to orchestrate a vision of hellish vengeance and uncompromising bleakness. He's helped immeasurably by the young Spacek's painfully evocative performance (both she and Laurie got Oscar nominations). It's precisely this kind of acting that brings the house down. This is a very scary movie and the prom scene was way over done with all the gore and death. All together an ok movie.

I HAVE LOVED ALL OF SISSY'S MOVIE FROM ''COAL MINERS DAUGHTER'' TO ''TUCK EVERLASTING'' SHE ALWAYS PLAYS A TRIUMPHANT ROLE AND IN ''CARRIE'' SHE WAS A LITTLE DIFFERENT. BUT I'V LOVED THIS MOVIE SINCE I WAS SIX AND TODAY IM FOURTEEN AND EVERY TIME I WATCH THIS MOVIE I LOVE IT EVEN MORE. I RECOMEND THIS MOVIE TO ANY FAN OF ''SCARY'' (WAS SCARY BACK THEN) MOVIES.

This is truly horor at it's best. It is basically the story of a shy and scared girl who has speicial powers. This may sound like every other horror movie but this is more than just a horor story, it is directed and acted so well that you really enter into the film, and when you've got a film like Carrie that is a scary thought in itself, It's truly a masterpiece of the horor genre.

Carrie is a surperb movie. A fine film. It lives up to its classification of classic. It started a long gene of horror movies and a sequel in 1999 that didn't top the original. Personally nothing will, this is a geniuine horror movie that will keep its name up in the horror movie titles for years to come.
