In 2004, pop singer-turned-actress Mandy Moore attempted to shed a little bit of her squeaky-clean image in this PG-13 romantic comedy. Playing the daughter of the President of the United States, Moore escapes the watchful eye of her Secret Service detail while visiting Prague, hitching a ride with a handsome Brit played by Matthew Goode. Little does she know, her getaway driver is actually a member of the Secret Service team. Little does he know, the first daughter is irresistible. The film comes to DVD with this more-than-adequate release. Along with a widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound, the disc features an audio commentary track by Moore and Goode. The stars offer fans an exclusive glimpse into their personal experiences making the film. Other bonuses include a selection of scenes that didn't make the final cut, a collection of bloopers, a musical performance by hip-hop group the Roots, and a featurette with the cast and crew giving a tour of the film's lavish European locations. A full-screen version with the same features is also available.

All Movie Guide
The first of two president's daughter movies released in 2004, Chasing Liberty is also the more entertaining, since it doubles as a European travelogue. Both this and First Daughter address a girl's desire to escape the claustrophobic smothering of the secret service, but Liberty has the advantage of not dumbing down the material into a wish-fulfillment princess fantasy, despite the presence of teen-friendly Mandy Moore. Of course, it couldn't be designed for anyone but teens, but it treats teens as real people grappling with such mature issues as whether and how to lose their virginity. In fact, Moore's whole agenda in going on the lam is to get to the Love Parade in Berlin. A festival with that kind of name, featuring rave music, hints at a certain amount of sexual and drug-related behavior, and the producers deserve credit for not shying away from those associations. Moore wins equal points for continuing to mature as an actress, especially since she came on the scene as a pop singer. Her character is pretty grounded and believable for someone who wants a wild European adventure, and her scenes with Matthew Goode have chemistry and complexity. Characters who don't fare so well are the comic relief team of Jeremy Piven and Annabella Sciorra, the "cool" (i.e. non-thuggish) agents who trail Anna through Europe. Piven's innuendos and Sciorra's eyeball-rolling reactions to them -- which naturally dovetail into a romantic subplot -- could have been trimmed. Overall, though, Chasing Liberty earns credibility for refusing to sugarcoat the story it chooses to tell.

A wonderful story with amazing cast that make you just could not get over it.

Both actors did very well in this film. Mandy has a ways to go in getting better as an actor and Mark Harmon being around for a while, only just keeps getting better. Movie was great & chemistry well suited between all actors

I love this movie. Everytime I watch it I feel the need to travel through Europe. If I could I would love to take the exact same route that Mandy Moore's character does in the movie. Not to mention the fact that Matthew Goode is HOT. He could follow me around any day.

I borrowed this movie from the library and can't wait to own it for myself. I saw it four times and I could continue watch it again and again. The characters are great, Mandy Moore is a great actor and she got into the character. I only wish I could go and travel through Europe with a handsome man by my side.

I thought this was a good movie. Mandy Moore gave a great performance. She was funny and charming. Mattew Goode was also very good. His character was interesting. I still love Mandy in 'A Walk To Remember', but I thought she gave a great performance.

I was touched with the way the protagonists impersonated the characters...Its awesome to be loved truely by someone!!! And the hero does it all with a good bearing and refinement.

Many Moore always play her roles within the confines of the characters, without going over the top. As the daughter of the President, she was great. She must be a director¿s delight. The surprise for me was Mark Harmon - put him on the ticket and I¿ll vote for him. Handsome, rugged, barrel-voiced, obnoxiously faithful to the President, Matthew Goode? I need to see him in another role before I decide whether or not he was acting.
