March 15, 2017 Tai Chi Fit Over 50 David-Dorian Ross 5 stars Perfect for beginner seniors As we age we accumulate more and more thing to remember and keep track of. The beauty of this DVD is that you don’t have to memorize forms or sets or information. You only have to breathe, follow the instructor and his student and keep moving. I am well over 50 and have been teaching tai chi and kung fu for over 25 years. I was happy to see many subtle movements from other martial arts set such as 8 Pieces of Brocade, 18 Shi Ba Shi and qigong movements for working the three energy centers of the body. David-Dorian Ross explains that he has added into the sets some movements for working energy and keeping the triple burner. We are all born with 3 energy centers, Upper, Middle and Lower Dantain. When we are young we are full of fiery energy. As we age, the fires begin to fade out and if we are not careful, they will wither completely. Mr. Ross skillfully weaves movements into his sets to keep the qi flowing and balance out the energy of the body. The movements are all easy to follow along with, mirror viewed to the right and left and are quick and easy to do, once, twice or several times a day. One of the students, Judy is in her high 70’s and has had knee, hip, shoulder surgery over her lifetime. Two years ago, she began the Tai Chi Fit program and she moves very nicely, both in the studio and on beach sand. Sand is much harder to balance on then a hard floor because it shifts and moves under your feet. Judy looks stable and solid in both venues. One thing, that she mentioned in her interview, is that she has found a fine community of tai chi people on the Tai Chi Fit website. That is one of the most valuable things you will gain from the tai chi practice, a sense of community, fellow students and teachers to motivate your practice and real friends who share a passion.
