Overview

Destination Tokyo

Delmer Daves directs Cary Grant in the World War II drama Destination Tokyo. Warner Bros. releases the film to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Mono. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are also accessible. Supplemental materials include a short film titled Gem of the Ocean, a selection of trailers for films starring Cary Grant, and the trailer for Destination Tokyo; these features round out this fine release that became available the same day as Grant's comedy The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer.

This film was included in the 'Cary Grant Signature Collection' that I ordered (this collection is fantastic). I'm not a big fan of WWII movies, but I very much liked 'Destination Tokyo'. The story is sound, the characters aboard the sub are likeable, decent, heroic, everyday American people, and Cary Grant and John Garfield certainly never looked better on film. If you like maritime/submarine movies or if you're a Cary Grant fan, this one's worth checking out.

The crew of an attack submarine sets sail from The west coast with orders to meet up with an Naval intelligence officer located in the Aleutians islands. From this point on,they make their way to the Japanese mainland to get vital information before the USS Hornet launches 16 B-25 Mitchell off the carrier deck, putting in the action the famed Dolittle raid.
