Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a remake of the 1964 film farce Bedtime Story. Steve Martin and Michael Caine take over the roles originally played by Marlon Brando and David Niven: two international con artists, plying their trade on gullible wealthy women up and down the Riviera. Martin and Caine vie over the honor of fleecing ingenuous heiress Glenne Headly (in a role originated by Shirley Jones).

This movie about two con men on the French Riviera inspired the Broadway musical of the same name, in which John Lithgow gives Michael Caine's character from the film a more egotisical bent. Having seen both the play and the movie, both of which are great, I still prefer the film version - especially because of Steve Martin's outlandish approach to his character. The story wraps up with not one, but two, delightful plot twists.

It's well worth my discounted purchase - lots of fun, and Martin and Caine are a great team!
