Doctor Strange

After a car accident leaves him with nerve damage that ends his career as a New York neurosurgeon, Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) travels to Kathmandu in the hope of finding an otherworldly cure for his injuries. There, a powerful mystic known as the Ancient One (Tilda Swinton) accepts him as her pupil and trains him in the art of sorcery. Eventually, Strange must use his new powers to stop a rival (Mads Mikkelsen) from causing chaos by accessing the Dark Dimension. Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Benedict Wong co-star in this entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister). ~ Jack Rodgers

A pretty fun movie. I hadn't heard of the character before except what the costume looked like. The special effects were really good, reminded me a bit of Inception.

The Great Marvel Movies are Multi-Level, many things at once. This certainly fits that category. For starters the visual affects are spectacular. The spells conjured by sorcerers is powerful and beautiful. The various dimensions shown are thrilling. Strange levitating in his red cloak is stunning and entertaining. The one major flaw is this movie turned the Ancient One into a Woman. That was neither necessary nor useful. The flow of the story worked fine, but that change was only made for PC. Stephen Strange goes through a powerful awakening throughout the movie. He evolves and grows. At the beginning he's a brilliant, gifted, and famous surgeon. He's also arrogant, attention addicted, and egocentric. Then a car crash ends his medical career. Throughout most of the movie, Strange was working to heal his damaged body, and reclaim his career. He was clinging to the past, instead of working for the future. When medicine and science fails him he heads to Nepal and seeks self healing techniques. From there his journey leads him into the realms of magic and sorcery, while also providing 21st century terms for those abilities. He'd been raised on/with science, but he'd clearly been born with a talent for sorcery. Strange learns about the Multi-Verse; learns about the wonders and horrors scattered throughout it. He also learns some of the Ancient One's former disciples have joined with one of those horrors, and have become a threat to the entire world. Eventually he had to face a powerful choice. He could have his career back or become a hero/guardian.
