Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

Directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story revolves around amiable underachiever Peter LaFleur (Vince Vaughn), whose rundown gym, Average Joe's, is populated by a less-than-average clientele including a self-styled pirate, an ultra-obscure sports aficionado, and a pining high school nerd. It soon becomes apparent that Joe's is in financial trouble and will soon be foreclosed by attractive attorney Kate Veach (Christine Taylor) - unless Peter can cough up $50,000. Despite Average Joe's posing little threat to Globo Gym, a fitness Goliath across the street that is owned by egomaniacal White Goodman (Ben Stiller) - Goodman senses an easy acquisition and decides to take over the facility. Peter's ragtag group of regulars, however, are less than thrilled with the prospects, and mobilize a showdown, winner-takes-all Dodgeball tournament against Globo Gym. The film also features Missi Pyle, Rip Torn, Stephen Root, and Alan Tudyk. ~ Tracie Cooper

I was really upset to listen to the Audio Commentary because being a film fan, I like to listen to them to find out how shots are made, etc. I also like to hear the stories about the shoot, but this one really ticked me off. It has the director and Vince, (who is eating potato chips and drinking beer throughout his brief stint on the track) Vaughn apparently waiting for Ben Stiller to show up complaining about his behavior and ego. The director leaves the session because he gets ticked off at Stiller, Vaughn and Stiller leave the session because they get tired of working with the sound technicians and then the sound technicians leave the session and start playing the audio commentary to Something About Mary. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the film, but was looking forward to hearing from a first time director what his experience was like and whether this was a big joke or actual true behavior, I was thoroughly ticked off at all three of them and the studio for allowing that as a finished product.

This is a great movie! The Vince Vaughn vs Ben Stiller competition keeps the story moving. Christine Taylor is funny, strong, and pretty. The supporting cast brings both depth and humor. The cameos are funny, and they actually fit into the story. One of the best things about this movie is that once you know the basic plot, you can come back to it over and over, watching it in 10 minute slices, and laugh. This disk has a perminate slot in my player. Absolutely one of the best! Thank you Chuck Norris!

I have never laughed so much at a movie. It is ridiculously hilarious! The cast should be in every movie together! There are so many pee in your pants hilarious scenes. The entire cast is so original and creative! Excellent choice for any film fan!

Very funny some parts, ridiculously stupid others. Just a pointless, predictable, simple movie. Nothing very special about it. Good acting by Ben Stiller, otherwise Vaughn and company are garbage. Is good for a rent, do not buy like I did, I will not watch it again. The Lance Armstrong part is probably the best 'scene' in the movie.
