This film started out as a little-known Sundance cult hit, and has grown to the point that if you mention 'Donnie Darko,' most people know what you're talking about. A couple of years after the film was originally released (I actually caught it the first time in the middle of the night on HBO) they released a Director's Cut, which was supposedly closer to the original Sundance cut. It may just be that I'm a big fan of the version I originally saw, but I thought that the Director's Cut didn't give you enough room for interpretation - it explained too much. This is such a mysterious and strange movie, and I think it comes off better when you're not quite sure what is happening, and you have to think about it for awhile. In any case, both versions are on the Blu-ray (and they look fantastic in HD!), so you can watch and decide for yourself which cut is better.

One of my favs of all time. It's mind boggling, twisted, everything you could want in a movie. Highly reccommend this one.

Haven't seen this in years but having seen it again, the acting, tone, story and especially the soundtrack makes this a really good movie. Also the bunny still creepy. One of my favorites.

I am not a big fan of psychological thrillers, however for this movie I have made an exception. Donnie Darko¿s plot is unique, dark, and bit crazy, but it is one of the most entertaining films I have ever seen. Viewers will not be able to stop watching the great storyline that includes giant demonic rabbits, plane engines falling out of the sky, the end of the world, time travel, and a really crazy town. I really don¿t even know how to describe this film or even its meaning, but really the meaning and the events in this film are up to the viewer to interpret and there are many different opinions on that matter. Donnie Darko is set in 1988 and it follows a brooding teenager named Donnie Darko. Donnie keeps having hallucinations of a giant demonic bunny named ¿Frank¿ that predicts the end of the world. In some of Donnie¿s hallucinations Frank convinces Donnie to commit various crimes, some of which being quite dangerous. Of course this is only a little of the weird stuff that happens, it gets much weirder and once the film has ended you may be thinking ¿What just happened?¿ or at least that is what I thought when I first watched it. It is a bizarre film that can be pretty confusing, but nonetheless I highly recommend watching it. This film made me laugh with its dark humor and it really boggled my mind at times. Donnie Darko is truly an unforgettable film and I recommend everyone to give it a try and watch it. The plot sounds crazy and maybe you¿re not sure this is something that you would want to watch, but trust me it is worth it.

This movie was quite good with some suprising twists. Frank the giant blue demonic like bunny rabbit looked freaky and had a weird voice that would send shivers down your spine. Entertaining enough.

Donnie Darko is without a doubt my favorite film that I have current knowledge of. It was directed by Richard Kelly in 2001, and has to be his best piece of work yet!! The main character is Donnie Darko himself, a troubled teen attending Middlesex High School. He is tormented by delusionary hullucinations of a horrifying demonic rabbit that brings and shares visions of the past and deadly predictions for the future. The film features an all-star cast of actors and each one puts forth their best effort and succeed wonderfully!! This movie can appear extremely out of whack to the casual observer, and despite some of the negative humor seen or heard sometimes between the characters, it is not a film to be taken lightly. It is a dark and mind-blowing masterpiece and has a cult fan following. The plot is a very unique and complex one, ranging from Donnie's daily life to the world ending and time travel. The vast array of different content in this movie will keep you mesmerized and on the edge of your seat. Some of the smallest details play some of the biggest roles in the movie. Many events foreshadow things to come and can really catch you off gaurd. The ending is a true turn-around surprise. I strongly urge any reader of this review to go and get this movie and see it as soon as possible!! It is highly recommended by myself to view this movie multiple times to make any great deal of sense with this movie. You must pay close attention to every detail to fully appreciate Kelly's work. Every delusional scene is beautifully done and really are eerie and breathholding. However, despite all these great aspects, it is rated R, so young ones are better off sustaining from viewing this film.

When I first saw this movie, I expected nothing special. But the night after, I found myself hiring it again and watching it with someone else. The second time I watched it I felt the odd shiver down my spine, because it was that damn good. This really is the best movie I have seen in a long, long time. Everything about it is superb. If you haven't seen this already, see it, and buy it. If you have seen it, what are you waiting for?

This was one of the best movies I have ever seen. It's a movie that will challenge everything you ever believed on certain subjects and make you think as hard as your brain possibly can.

A friend of mine recommended this movie and, needless to say, I knew nothing about it. And to my utter disbelief, I was completely caught off guard by this film. I watched it last week and still can't get it quite out of my head.

This has got to be one of the only films to instantly appear on my top ten favorites list...I just can't imagine not being provoked by this film for the rest of my life. Set over the month of October, 1988, the film is part psychological thriller, part coming-of-age, part black comedy, part time travel, part love story, and all around madness. Everything but the kitchen sink, yet Richard Kelly manages to balance it all perfectly with his directorial debut. I was 14 in 1988, the same age as Donnie's friends, and definetly appreciated the little touches (the classic Kathy Ireland poster in his room, the haunting ET and Back to the Future references). This is a subtly scathing attack on post 80's America, pre-Columbine, when the psycho-student wasn't such a common thing, and there was still some hope for inspiring our children...I only hope another portal opens soon! By the way, if the movie confuses you, and it will, check out the official web site. Richard Kelly has explained everything there, though it will take some detective work to navigate the site!

Donnie Darko is a insanely good film. it brings together all kinds of different movie genres. It's sad, twisted story line will keep you thinking for days on end. Why is Donnie darko so good, because it makes you think and has one of the deepest story lines I have ever known. This film would be best suited to deep thinkers and people who like twisted story lines. It is the best film i will ever see.
