Eight brave sled dogs search for the master who is looking for a way to rescue them in this adventure drama. An American geologist (Bruce Greenwood) flies to Antarctica to participate in a project at the United States Research Base, where he teams up with arctic guide Jerry Shepard (Paul Walker) and his best friend, Cooper (Jason Biggs). The scientist soon discovers that Shepard also has eight other valuable friends -- a pack of sled dogs he's worked with for years, who have rescued him from a number of tight spots. As the three men explore a frozen mountain region, an unexpected accident coupled with a massive storm front forces them to fly to safety, leaving the dogs behind. Shepard is determined to rescue his canine friends, but he has to wait until the weather will allow him to travel back to the mountain, while the dogs struggle against the elements to survive as they attempt to make their way back home. Eight Below was inspired by a true story involving Japanese researchers exploring the Antarctic in 1957; the story was made into the film Nankyoku Monogatari.

this is a fantastic movie, its a wonderful story about how people really care about there friends and when someone says they will keep a promise, they do! dogs really are a mans bestfriend. And its true that you have to fight for te things you care about. you will do anything. i recommend you watch this movie and read this book! its the best movie you will ever see about a relationship with man and dog!
this movie is so fantastic,i got mesmerized by the 8 wonderful dogs....Dogs are really man's best friend and if you watch it,it will really make you teary eyed.....
For anyone that can not believe that dogs hunt exactly like this movie depicts, nor do you believe that dogs protect each other the exact way shown here, then when you get to, maybe 4th or 5 th grade and see how wild dogs of Africa hunt in packs. They absolutely protect each other just like the movie. You will learn that they hunt in unison and bring food back to their dens for their young and their protectors as they wait. If this was a true story, I only want to say, when will humans finally realize that even though they are animals, they are so much more loyal, trust worthy and loving. So if thats an animal, you can call me one also. What I thought was fake was, while the professor was taking all of that praise, the reason he was alive, safe, and home, was still left back there, unfed being left to die a slow agonizing, cold, cruel, death. Although I did feel good about the survival of the 6, there were still 2 that suffered. I viewed this movie twice so far, I drew tears twice.
I loved this movie! I watch it over and over. I love dogs so that is why I saw it. The movie is really good.
this show is so touching, the dogs are so cute too,you have to watch it!
this movie is good for the family, and dog lovers.
this movie rocks
This is an excellent movie. My 5 y/o son and I watched it together and we LOVED it. It was a very touching movie. Even my son had tears in his eyes! The dogs were so very cute and endearing. Great story line. I would certainly recommend it to everyone. I will be showing this movie to my 1st grade class this fall!
I just rented this movie last night and it is one of my newest favorites of all time now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes this one is definetly a recent classic for everyone no matter what age you are. Me , my mom , and my 3 year old brother (who's about to turn 4 after Christmas) liked it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And now I'm getting it on DVD for my mom for Christmas. If you need something good and apropriate that you and your whole family can watch together , watch "Eight Below" IT'S A MUST SEE FOR ALL AGES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Both kids and adults will love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am an animal lover (cat's) and I never think to much about dogs but this movie crashes all that. For 8 dogs to take care of each other (2 deceased, 1 wounded) for 5 months is totally incredible. This was superbly done. CUDOS, and tears in various scenes. James Coston =============
Woof! This is an outstanding movie. Eight dogs are trained to pull sleds and since they can't have cars where they live they are a dog car and pull their owner to places. One day a doctor comes and they go look for something from space. When they return the doctor has a broken leg and the man has put frost burns around his eyes and has to go to the hospial. Will they dogs surive out in the cold with no shelter food or owner. Get the movie I enjoyed it and you will to.
My aunt and my grandma saw it and told me about it, it sounded interesting. Saw a preview for it on a different movie, it still sounded interesting. Finally, rented and watched it myself. It was great.
I enjoyed this movie and so did my mom. Why is it hard to imagine dogs with "human intelligence?" Whatever that means! I mean, looking at how we are as humans today on this earth, are we really all that smart? Dogs have displayed remarkable abilities- they constantly amaze us humans and besides, isn't this movie loosely based on a true story? They would have had to had some semblance of smarts in order to have survived! This film was moving and touching and beautiful to watch. Furthermore, it serves as a good guidance to young people to respect, appreciate and be grateful for nature and life in all its forms. And that, is a lesson well worth heeding.
I just recived this film for my birthday, and I liked it, but some parts in the film made me sad (I dont ever cry) like when the dog named Dewey falls off the cliff or when Old Jack perishes in the cold, and when Maya gets bitten on the leg by a seal and almost dies from losing blood, otherwise it is a moving film that will be pulling at your heart. I would also consider veiewing it with children 6 and under. It is a dog-lovers must-see.
This is the best movie i've ever seen. it's a little chessy but it has all of the major movie catagorys drama, comdy, sadness and can be very scary for part of it. This is the best movie ever
I enjoyed this movie. It was so great! My favorite dogs were Maya, Max, and Shorty. I told all of my friends to watch this movie.
I like this movie but I only have one gripe: the scenes where the dogs display human intelligence and coordinate tactics to catch birds and run off a seal that looks like a frickin dinosaur are the stupidest things this movie could have done. I understand it's a Disney movie but give me a break. Otherwise, this movie was grounded in reality.
