Overview

The precocious six-year-old Manhattanite of Kay Thompson's beloved Eloise books gets into the holiday spirit while playing cupid in this made-for-TV comedy. Eloise (Sofia Vassilieva) resides at the Plaza Hotel with her parents, and like much of the hotel staff she's excited about the upcoming marriage of Rachel Peabody (Sara Topham), the daughter of the hotel's owner, to handsome Brooks Oliver (Rick Roberts). However, Eloise learns that Brooks's motivations for marrying Rachel are not sincere, and so the youngster tries to sway Rachel away from her fiancé and towards Bill (Gavil Creel), a good-hearted waiter in the hotel's restaurant. Eloise at Christmastime also features Julie Andrews, Jeffrey Tambor, and Christine Baranski.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
If you're looking for holiday cheer and merry mischief, you have checked in to the right hotel. This sequel to Eloise at the Plaza captures Kay Thompson's cherished storybook character in all her indefatigable, irrepressible glory. Sofia Vassileva reprises her role as precocious six-year-old Eloise, who has the run of New York's swanky Plaza Hotel while her globe-trotting mother is away. Eloise absolutely loves Christmas, and if she can also play matchmaker for her favorite waiter, help save an elderly neighbor from eviction, help expose a slick con man, and generally frustrate the Plaza's snotty event planner (Christine Baranski, truly in her element), then so much the better. Julie Andrews is practically perfect in every way as Eloise's beloved and exasperated Nanny (a far-frumpier babysitter than Mary Poppins). Some might say Eloise has no boundaries, but she has a good heart and positive intentions that compensate for her apparently rude and thoughtless behavior. Like its high-spirited young heroine, Eloise at Christmastime is really quite enchanting, and will brighten the holidays for years to come.
