Les Mayfield directs Brendan Fraser in the fish-out-of-water comedy Encino Man. The film comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround and a French soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. There are no subtitles, but the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include the theatrical trailer and a making-of featurette. This is a fine, if unremarkable release from Disney/Buena Vista.

Encino Man is one of those aged movies that never really hit it big and has long since been forgotten but I've had very fond memories of it so I was terrified it would lose its appeal after so many years. Fortunately for me, my nostalgia was well founded. This movie was one a childhood favourite and I'm happy to report that, even after 20+ years, it still doesn't disappoint. While on the surface, Encino Man is unrevolutionary in that it's everything you'd expect from a 90's-era Pauly Shore film. But if you look a little deeper you'll unearth a keen satire about popularity in high school. I mean, c'mon. The idea that a Cro-Magnon Man could become the coolest kid in school is pretty funny, probably because it's almost believable.Am I saying this movie remotely accurate? Not at all. But do I care? No way! Though the initial premise is every bit as silly as it sounds, there's also an unexpected sweetness that makes it surprisingly deep. One wouldn't expect a cave man to be deep, but he is. He manages to teach modern day man humility, compassion and the true meaning of friendship. And boiled down, that's really what this movie is all about. Sure, it comes across as dated but I really don't think that detracted at all from the entertainment value. In fact, it actually served to enhance the movie's rad quality. Yeah, there might be a few overtly 90's cliches but they're altogether spot on and fun. Another thing that I really appreciated about Encino Man was the wholesomeness of the comedy and the chemistry between the cast. The friendships in the movie are reminiscent of a Bill and Ted or a Wayne and Garth. ¿¿Astin does serious like Shore does zany and it just works. And then there's the spectacular debut of Brendan Fraiser as Link. He's limber and animalistic and funny and simple and understanding and probably the most human person in the entire film. Frasier, without a doubt, is the heart and soul of Encino Man. So yeah, the film might not be anything super revolutionary but it sure is a whole lotta fun. And really, isn't that all anyone can ask for?
This is the funniest movie to watch It has Sean Astion and Pauly Shoore Two guys from Encino find a caveman in Dave's backyared They figure that the caveman can help them become cool They give him a bath a name him Link My encino man quotes Weeze the juice!!! The cheese is old and moldy Where is the bathroom? and Oww Buddy!!!! Weasel Weasl Weasel!!!! Encion Man rocks!!!
This is the best movie I have seen in soooo long! I love all of it!
This is the crossroads where a stupid idea meets a bad script and bad acting. ''Encino Man'' is guaranteed to delight viewers with an I.Q. of about three on a good day. Life's too short to waste 88 minutes on this shallow excuse for comedy. Save your bucks and your time -- do something more entertaining, like maybe floss your teeth!
This movie I found to be very cute. It was funny and Brendan Fraser is just drop dead gorgous in the role of Link so I recommend you see it. I laughed so much when I saw this movie, it's really really good.
Pauly Shore, Sean Astin, and Brendan Frasier bring their A-game to this box office failure. This has to be one of the most underated movies in the teen comedy genre. An instant classic, this movie has it all!
I think that Encino Man is a good movie for the mind weary college students. It gives us a good break from thinking to hard and lets us just relax
This movie was hilarious with Pauly Shore, Brendan Fraiser, Sean Aston. i give this movie three thumbs up!
This has to be one of the funniest movies of all time!
In my opinion this is a great movie and definitely worth watching. It starts out with Dave (Sean Austin), and Stoney (Pauly Shore) digging in Dave's backyard and they find a frozen cave man. When the ice melts the cave man comes to life. Dave and Stoney give him a bath, some clothes and name him Link (Brendan Fraser). They take him to school, teach him manners, become friends and have a good time. The movie is full of laughs and great quotes to take away like "Hey Bud-dy" and "Weeze the ju-uice". Their mannerisms and the way they speak and even just the words they choose make the movie very funny. There is no way that anyone can watch this movie and not laugh. The concept grabs people's attention. It is a classic, not many other movies resemble this one. If you have not seen this movie then I greatly recommend it. It is at least worth a watch. I would say that any teenager would be able to relate to it. I say this because even though it was made many years ago, it still talks about the same problems that teens go through now like making friends, being popular and going through high school. I would also say that this is a good movie for college students. Anything is a good break from all the work but this movie is easy to get very into, gives many good laughs and makes you think to not take everything so seriously. Strangely enough in this movie there is actually a difference between the VHS tape and DVD. In the DVD version, a part of the movie is left out. In the scene where Dave and Stoney are teaching Link how to fight, at the end of the scene, Stoney says "Ow, my pancreas!" For this reason I would suggest that you get the VHS version if possible. That line is pretty much the only think that makes that scene funny and it is a shame that it was left out of the newer version. If you do not mind a line cut out of the DVD version, it also has its advantages. The DVD version came out in 2000 and has bonus materials like a production featurette, theatrical trailer, and film recommendations. What I like most about this movie is all the memorable quotes. If seen with friends there is no way that anyone will walk away from watching this and not be repeating the lines and laughing. That is just the effect this movie has on people and I really like that. From the movies I have seen none have had that effect on me besides Encino Man. When I watch this movie it makes me feel more care free and just want to live life and have fun; just forget about the little things. I think if a movie can have that impact on someone then it is a positive thing. If you have seen this movie already and agree with me that it is very good then I would suggest watching it again. I have watched it many times and wish there were more movies like Encino Man out there. I definitely give this movie two thumbs up.
This movie lets us see how dumb we actually talked back in the day. It's a great movie to watch for a break from homework and friends. It's a wonderful movie for everyone!
