Overview

European Muslims and Eastern Christians: The Broken Mirrors

Socioculturally speaking, the geographic area formerly designated as the Ottoman Empire (later divided up as Turkey, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Lebanon and other countries) marks a unique region - a nexus between European Christianity and European Islam, witness to members of each religious group living side by side, despite a tortuous and conflicted history rife with conflicts that occasionally erupted into genocide. Jacques Debs's documentary European Muslims and Eastern Christians: The Broken Mirrors travels to this unique area, where the filmmaker uses his own history and experience as a Lebanese Christian as a jumping-off point, to investigate the broader ethno-social and religious complexities of the area.
