For those who haven't been exposed to the bizarre and darkly funny animated world of Family Guy, this Freakin' Sweet Collection is a perfect introduction to the Griffins. Series creator Seth MacFarlane -- who also voices the characters Peter, Stewie, and Brian Griffin -- offers his five favorite Family Guy episodes on this DVD, four of which include commentary tracks not included in the Vol. 1 and Vol. 2 DVD releases. The best of these is on "Road to Rhode Island," which MacFarlane delivers in character as Brian and Stewie. The episodes presented here include "Lethal Weapons," "I Am Peter, Hear Me Roar," "To Love and Die in Dixie," "When You Wish Upon a Weinstein," and the aforementioned "Road to Rhode Island," the latter picked because of MacFarlane’s fondness for the Bob Hope-Bing Crosby road pictures. His explanations of why each episode made the cut are especially interesting. While the Family Guy series isn't as sophisticated as its network cousin The Simpsons, The Freakin' Sweet Collection will certainly clue in the curious as to why the Griffins have developed such a devoted following. Other extras include a short preview of MacFarlane's new series, American Dad, and an interview about Season 4 of Family Guy -- which came about mainly because the DVDs were such runaway hits.
