Father Ted Series 2
Housing the entire second series/season of Father Ted, this two-DVD collection compiles ten episodes of one of the funniest sitcoms of all time. Off the bat, the menus are stellar. Photos of Father Ted Crilly, Father Jack Hackett, Father Dougal McGuire, and Mrs. Doyle add a hilarious touch to the DVD's menus. The episodes themselves aren't as dynamic as in their television broadcasts, with the audio coming across just a bit tinny and the video presentation showing some compression or snow, but it's a more than acceptable package, as its flaws are easily glossed over once the comedy ensues. The main menus give three options: "Play in Order," "Select an Episode," and "Special Features." On the "Select an Episode" menus, each episode is broken into six chapters with chapter titles and still images, which makes it very easy to find favorite scenes. The bonus feature on disc one is a hilarious commentary by co-writer Graham Linehan, who leaves few stones unturned in examining the show. Disc two houses a photo gallery and a cast and crew biographies section. The photo gallery includes stills from the episodes of the second series, all of them with humorous, informative captions by the show's writers. The cast biographies cover the four primary actors and their characters. For example, one learns that Dougal "is one of God's special creatures." Bios are also available for the writers. All in all, it's an essential collection for Father Ted fans.
