I admit that I have not seen the second movie, only the first. Drew Barrymore plays Charlie, the main character for the title. The movie is based on real lab testing done by the government with various drugs, taking it one step further for entertainment value. Basically Charlie's parents (mother played by a young and gorgeous Heather Locklear) volunteer for testing of hallucination drugs. Little did they know that Lot 6, the name of the experiment, caused a variety of effects, including mental domination abilities for Charlie's father. Charlie, being born after the testing, also develops abilities - pyrokinesis. Charlie's parents are ordered by 'The Shop' (which is the governmental facility that tested Lot 6) to come back for further testing. When they refuse, Charlie's mother is killed. Charlie's father uses his mental domination to break free from the scene and he runs with Charlie from place to place to build a new life. The Shop finally catches them and lie to Charlie in order for her to let her guard down. Charlie starts testing her abilities as they request and she at first starts some wood chips on fire with the power of her mind. The second test actually involves cinder blocks - that not only catch on fire, but explode, and she melts the testing equipment that monitored the heat level. Eventually they break free once again, only to have Charlie's father get shot, and with his dying breath, he asks Charlie to make the Shop pay, by burning it all down, killing everyone to prevent any further evil experiments. It's a great thriller and the effects are still great to this day.
