Joel Schumacher's uneven drama Flawless comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. A closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a Spanish soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. Spanish and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental features include a collectible booklet and the original theatrical trailer. While this film did not connect with a large audience, its best aspect -- the fantastic performances by the two leads -- shines through on the small screen. Fans of the film will like the disc, and it should be viewed by admirers of De Niro and Philip Seymour Hoffman, as well as acting students. Can a homophobic former rent-a-cop find happiness learning to sing with a man in a dress? That's the big question in this comedy-drama. A retired security guard (Robert De Niro), deeply conservative and set in his ways, falls victim to a debilitating stroke. His doctors prescribe an extensive program of physical therapy once he's released from the hospital, including singing lessons to help him regain his full powers of speech. As it turns out, there's a vocal instructor living next door to the guard, so he signs up only to discover that his new teacher is a flamboyant drag queen awaiting a sex-change operation (Philip Seymour Hoffman). Written and directed by Joel Schumacher, Flawless also stars Wilson Jermaine Heredia and Daphne Rubin-Vega, both of whom first gained notice in the Broadway musical Rent, as well as Rory Cochran and Barry Miller.
PSH was superb in his role. I laughed & I cried. This is one of my favorite movies. De Niro was great, as always. The film reminded me to look beyond the exterior to the heart of a person. PSH keeps getting better with each film. I love him!!

An off-beat but excellent film starring Robert DeNiro who gives a solid but low-keyed performance as a stroke victim in need of singing lessons to regain his speech. Philip Seymour Hoffman gives a brilliant and gutsy performance as Rusty, the flaming drag queen vocal coach, and it's worth buying the film for this performance alone.
