The acclaimed detective series returns with more mysteries set in the uncertain days at the beginning of the Cold War. In 1946 London, former DCS Christopher Foyle (Michael Kitchen, Out of Africa) now employs his unerring investigative skills on behalf of MI5, assisted by his ever-faithful driver, Sam Wainwright (Honeysuckle Weeks, My Brother Tom).

Also starring Daniel Weyman (Great Expectations), Ellie Haddington (Life Begins), Tim McMullan (The Woman in Black), Jeremy Swift (Oliver Twist), and Rupert Vansittart (Holy Flying Circus), with two-time Emmy® and Golden Globe® nominee John Mahoney (Frasier) as a guest star.

Episode 1: High Castle
A university professor who had been working as a translator at the Nuremberg trials is stabbed to death. As Foyle investigates, he delves into the world of international oil politics and corrupt Nazi businessmen. Sam assists the murder inquiry by going undercover, despite her pregnancy.

Episode 2: Trespass
As Britain debates the creation of a Jewish state in Palestine, the son of a wealthy Jewish businessman is assaulted. The flames of anti-Semitism have recently been fanned in London by Charles Lucas, a right-wing writer, and Foyle suspects the attack was racially motivated.

Episode 3: Elise
After an attempt on Hilda Pierce's life, Foyle scrutinizes her work for the Special Operations Executive during the war. Could this be related to the deaths of nine SOE agents in France and rumors of a traitor called Plato?

We were very surprised and pleased at the continuation of one of our favorite series. The difficult and dangerous challenges of the post-war years are so well depicted, and the jaw-dropping surprise at the end of disc three have made us impatient for series 9!

I love the TV Series of Foyle's War. This is the reason I order the 3 dics. To me Flyle's is a good detective he seems to love his work..Seems to care about people back during war in 1946. I love Michael Kitchen who plays the detective.I would advise anyone to buy Foyles War: Set 8 (DVD).

As is true of the series as a whole, the mysteries are clever, the production values (hair styles, fabrics, shoes, hats, accessories, and so forth) are spot on, and the overall story is rooted in time and place. I'm always impressed by the writing, especially that of the series creator Anthony Horowitz, who wrote all 3 episodes in Series 8. His wit and his understanding of the period more than match that of many historians and students of post-war Britain, and his characters could easily be transported back to 1946-47 London and not seem out of place. If you haven't yet stumbled across Detective Chief Superintendent Foyle, now of MI-5, prepare to be enchanted; you will immediately want to investigate the preceding 7 series; if, like me, you have been following all along, you will find series 8 a fitting capstone to a most memorable and enjoyable television experience. Christopher & "Sam" [Samantha], I will miss you in new episodes, but I will revisit all previous ones happily and often!
