Futurama - The Beast with a Billion Backs

In Futurama's latest and most tentacle-packed epic, space itself rips open, revealing a gateway to another universe. But what lies beyond? Horror? Love? Or maybe both, if it happens to contain a repulsive, planet-sized monster with romantic intentions! Nothing less than the fate of human and robot-kind is at stake as the Futurama crew takes on The Beast with a Billion Backs.

This is typical Futurama fare. It's the same main characters and the same universe but facing a different moral issue. The issue this time is sex. The issue with sex for Futurama is that the writers have limitations based on their humor and the fact that they like to keep the show clean. (Not to mention that most of the writers have math degrees.) This comes out in that the usual tendency to let the humor follow to the logical conclusion gets reigned in a bit. They just can't go there and keep their dignity. Despite this, the flick is Futurama and provides what we all want from the show. I recommend that you get this film and enjoy it for what it is: a cartoon made the way that math geeks make cartoons.

If you're a fan of Futurama and you liked the last direct to DVD release, you're going to like this latest movie. "Beast With a Billion Backs" is a totally different...well...beast from "Bender's Big Score," despite being directly in continuity. Gone are the musical numbers and the overt references to earlier episodes. However, in their place, we have an even odder brand of humor that suits the series well. It could alienate new viewers, but honestly, these DVDs aren't for new viewers. If "Bender's Game" and "Into the Wild Green Yonder" follow in the footsteps of the previous DVDs, we're in for a treat. Hopefully the real 30th century will be this much fun.
