Ksshhhh, Kssshhh. This is the sound of Paul Pena's radio as he picks up a small signal from a Russian radio station. The music he will encounter will change his life forever. Come live in the life of Pena and friends as the make a magical journey to the country of Tuva (the center of Asia). This forgotten country is south of Russia and just north of Mongolia. Trials and tribulations are quickly met as soon as the journeymen step off of the plane in this historic and proud nation. Initially, Pena goes there to perform in the traditional throat-singing contest. What he ends up getting is a lesson in humanity. This documentary spins an endless web of love, human kindness, and the pursuit of understanding different cultures. If you are traveler or just someone who appreciates other traditions, Genghis Blues will not let you down.

An interesting documentary into the expiences of a eclectic group of people trying to discover and participate in world music in tuva. The main charactor, Paul gets to live out a dream but all is not well all of the time. Very even handed documentary with a few feynmanisms thrown in for ''friends of tuva''. A remarkable journey by a remarkable man. I knew nothing of Mr. Pena, but it whetted my appetite!
