As a fan of both Jemaine Clement and Sam Rockwell, I enjoyed this film immensely. I like offbeat humor, and the subtleties of their acting performances (intertwined with the absurdity and quirkiness of the plot) shine brightly. If you can't handle a bit of weirdness in your films, you may not like this. Not every Jared Hess film can replicate the sweet awkwardness of Napoleon Dynamite, so if it's Napoleon Dynamite you're expecting, this isn't for you. The creativity and imagination in the science fiction storytelling element of this film is what I enjoyed the most, as well as all scenes with Clement and Rockwell.

Jared Hess, the director, did not have the magic touch this third time around. He directed Napoleon Dynamite as well as Nacho Libre. You may not have ever heard of this movie, and there's a good reason why you haven't. Compared to his other films, this movie does not even come close to matching up. Even standing alone, this movie was very disappointing. It did have its funny moments, but they were few and fleeting. I think the mistake Jared Hess made here was that he tried to focus on a plot more than just random happenings that all eventually lead to a bigger picture. That's what made Napoleon so popular: It was like, "Finally, a comedy without a plot or some love story to slow it down. Not since Dumb and Dumber have we seen that!" With Gentlemen Broncos, it's more like, "I found two funny jokes in this plot that just didn't belong here."
