Great Events of Our Century: Volume 7 - Freedom

This film is one of a set that chronicles important events of the 20th century. The subject of this video is the cause of freedom around the world, and how it has expressed itself in various countries. Through the use of archival film footage, photographs, eyewitness accounts, interviews, and commentary, the viewer follows the heroics of freedom movements of the century. These include the work of Mahatma Gandhi and the followers of his nonviolent disobedience that led to India's independence from Great Britain, and that of Martin Luther King, who employed the same principles in leading the Civil Rights Movement in the United States in the 1960s. The film surveys the work of the Women's Liberation Movement, and the role of student protests pertaining to a variety of causes. The courage of Nelson Mandela is celebrated, and his ultimately victorious fight against apartheid practices in South Africa. ~ Rose of Sharon Winter
