Overview

Gremlins

"Don't expose him to bright light. Don't ever get him wet. And don't ever, ever feed him after midnight." This sage advice is ignored midway through Gremlins, with devastating results. This comic Joe Dante effort is set in a Norman Rockwell-esque small town at Christmastime. Seeking a unique gift for his son an erstwhile inventor (Hoyt Axton) purchases a cute, fuzzy little "Mogwai" from a Chinatown shopkeeper's (Keye Luke) grandson (John Louie), who dispenses the above-mentioned warning before closing the deal. Meanwhile, young bank clerk Billy Peltzer (Zach Galligan) must suffer such antagonists as rich-bitch Mrs. Deagle (Polly Holliday) and priggish Gerald (Judge Reinhold) while pursuing his romance with Kate (Phoebe Cates). These and a variety of other plot strands are tied together when the lovable mogwai (named Gizmo) is exposed to bright light and gotten wet. In short order, the town is invaded by nasty, predatory Gremlins, who lay waste to everything in sight as Billy and Kate try to contain the destruction. Like most of Joe Dante's works, Gremlins is chock-full of significant cameo appearances: in this instance, such pop-culture icons as Dick Miller, Jackie Joseph, Chuck Jones, Scott Brady, Harry Carey Jr., Steven Spielberg (the film's executive producer) and even Robby the Robot all show up briefly on screen.

This movie captured the hearts of countless when it was first made. Over time it's become a Classic, each part of the movie is a work of art. The story unfolds through: Billy getting Gizmo. The birth of the evil Mogwai. The appearance of the pods, and the birth of the Gremlins. Billy's mom destroying 3 Gremlins in her kitchen. Billy saving her from a 4th, and Stripe's escape. Stripe diving into a pool, creating an army of Gremlins - all his to command. The chaos they unleash on the town is hilarious and brutal. The horde of Gremlins traps Kate in the bar, and Billy saves her. Then the horde's death by fire in the movie theater. Stripe and Billy battling each other in the department store. Finally Stripe's death at Gizmo's hands. All so wonderful.

"Don't expose him to bright light. Don't ever get him wet. And don't ever, ever feed him after midnight." GREMLINS is now on Diamond Luxe Edition. It also marks the 30th anniversary of that hit movie. I bought it along with the BATMAN Diamond Luxe Edition which also celebrated its 25th anniversary when it was released in 1989. This beautifully designed Diamond Luxe Edition is not like its regular case or the steelbook case. When you hold it, it is a little heavier and much better. When you open and close, it has that magnet like thing that you don't have to worry about accidentally dropping the disc. I love the movie Gremlins especially Gizmo and Phoebe Cates. Gizmo looks so cute, but Phoebe Cates is the prettiest actress. Steven Speilberg and Joe Dante did an incredible job with this film. i saw the movie four times. Now I can add it to my collection.

An amazing film that kept me in suspense. I saw it when I was six, and it scared the hell out of me. Same with the second. I still get the creeps when I watch this movie now a days. Perfectly blending black comedy and modern horror, this movie was a hit then, and remains a hit NOW.

i remember when i first saw this movie i was about 10 yrs. old. i was so in love with gizmo. i couldn't stand spike the old ugly gremlin he would always pick on gizmo and make me sad. but over all this movie is truely a classic in my book.

Having seen this movie when I was 13 (it was the first-ever PG-13 movie), it still ranks as one great movie. One thing that made the movie worth seeing for many was the enormously cute ''Bye, Billy'' that was spoken by Gizmo (voice by Howie Mandel) at the end. Even some of the Gremlins' words before they created havoc made the misery funny. Who could have imagined watching a gremlin being blown up in a microwave? Or a Gremlin being butchered in a blender? Comedy with the fake gore makes it all the more funny. Highly recommend for anyone, but some caution for all the blood and guts (none human - unless you count the old lady being thrown out the window when her ''lift'' is hotwired).

Gremlins is the greatest movie of the 1980's! Steven Speilberg does an outstanding job directing. The speical effects used to create the gremlins are wonderful. Every move, sound and action is convincing. Gizmo is a lovable hero. Every kid wanted a pet mogwai. This movie does a great job portraying typical small town life. The moive sends a great message about what how people break the most basic of rules, sometimes without even knowing it.
