It was "The Night HE Came Home," warned the posters for John Carpenter's career-making horror smash. In Haddonfield, IL, on Halloween night 1963, six-year-old Michael Myers inexplicably slaughters his teenage sister. His psychiatrist Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) can't penetrate Michael's psyche after years of institutionalization, but he knows that, when Myers escapes before Halloween in 1978, there is going to be hell to pay in Haddonfield. While Loomis heads to Haddonfield to alert police, Myers spots bookish teenager Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and follows her, constantly appearing and vanishing as Laurie and her looser friends Lynda (P.J. Soles) and Annie (Nancy Loomis) make their Halloween plans. By nightfall, the responsible Laurie is doing her own and Annie's babysitting jobs, while Annie and Lynda frolic in the parent-free house across the street. But Annie and Lynda are not answering the phone, and suspicious Laurie heads across the street to the darkened house to see what is going on....

Best Horror Flick By John Carpenter Ever

John Carpenter was a mastermind at horror, and was creating movies ever since he was a child. Only in his late teens he created a movie so suspensful, it left audiencies screaming out of their minds, and that's what John Carpenter did. Debra Hill, Carpenter's then girlfriend, decided to make a film to die for. They came up with a movie titled HALLOWEEN, because there was no such movie with no such name. Jamie Lee Curtis was an unknown acctress in an unknown show, and really only known for being the mother of the famous Janet Leigh in PSYCHO. Carpenter was inspired by PSYCHO because of Jamie, and that's what made HALLOWEEN the classic it is today. Imagine being in a neighbor and suddenly somebody starts chasing after you, with a butcher knife, a hauntly white ghost mask, and a truck driver's suit, after he has killed all of your friends and is now out for you. And every time you kill him, he awakens and just gets madder. It's an evil entity that will never die, and somewhere inside HALLOWEEN, their is an evil entity.

From the memorable intro credits with that creepy lit pumpkin, tuned to the haunting piano playing and the creepy ending, Halloween is a horror film that doesn't rely on cheap scares every something minutes like most scary films nowadays. This however has great suspense, atmosphere and doesn't rely on gore. After escaping from a mental institution Michael Myers goes after Laurie Strode and her friends while they're babysitting on Halloween night. All the while Dr. Loomis goes after Myers as he tries warning the town of Myers return. Everyone was good in their roles especially Donald Plesance (RIP) as the memorable Dr. Loomis. Still a creepy yet great film years later. Recommend this for any horror nor non horror fan, a must for your movie collection.

I recently saw Halloween for the first time and i loved it. I don't get scared that much when i see movies, but i had nightmares about this one. well the plot which you probably already know is Michael Myers is this insane man who killed his sister years ago on halloween when he was only 6. he was sent to a mental hospital as a hopeless case, but years later he escapes and stalks ''laurie''. if you want to see a genuinely good horror movie and be scared out of your wits, this is the movie for you. if you like to see people die graphic deaths (that is not me i hate graphic deaths)then you would not like this movie. even though i am only 12 i know a good horor movie when i see one. rent this on a rainy night, make some popcorn, and go try not to scream!

I don't know how many times I watched all the haloween movies, but however many times that is I just can't get enough. It's the most scariest movie I have ever seen in my whole life. I've been watching it since I was a little kid and to this day I am 16 and i still get nightmares, and I can't watch it alone. I JUST LOVE MIKE!!!!!!!!!

I think this is by far the best horror movie ever. I don't think it needed sequels but I am still glad that they made more. I believe Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Pleasence did a awesome job.

With any classic horror film, the plots normally revolve around some childhood trauma and involve alot of horomone crazed teenagers. Same goes for halloween the original version, but, like any horror film classic, its worth a watch. I wouldnt neccesarily buy it, I would catch it on AMC or Sci-Fi around Halloween. I have a guilty pleasure for these kind of films and if you arent into tastless killings dont bother with this film.

Halloween may not have been the first slasher film (try the original Black Christmas), but it sure did popularize the genre and usher in a new era filled with loads of gore, frights, and downright fun from other such classic characters like Jason Voorhees (from Friday the 13th) and Freddy Krueger (from A Nightmare on Elm Street). The DVD itself is awesome, with a nice clean remastering of Halloween to keep the film's hackings and slashings looking as sharp (no pun intended) as ever. The bonus features are not that plentiful (although there is a wonderful documentary), but the sheer perfection of the terror that Halloween fills you with easily makes up for it. This DVD is a must-have for any movie-buffs collection--whether you like horror films or not, there is no denying "the one, the only, the classic, Halloween!"

1978 was a innocent time of unlocked doors, safe Halloween trick or treating, and teenage heavy petting, until a crazed ultimately evil killer escapes from an institution and heads home to continue where he left off. This movie is a jewel in the crown of the horror genre. It put John Carpenter on the map and moved horror from neck biting vampires, walking reanimates and mutant bugs to a new level of terror. Donald Pleasance plays a doctor trying to destroy the evil unleashed, Jamie Lee Curtis, P.J. Soles and Nancy Loomis play wide eyed teenagers about to face a terror previously unthinkable. Your pulse races, your neck hair bristles, your muscles tense and you will never feel safe on Halloween Again!!!

Halloween is the ultimate boogeyman movie. Michael Myers is the boogeyman. This is the founder of horror movies. This movie also has a load of awesome sequels(excluding Halloween 3 Season of the Witch)

I had a sleep over the other night with all my friends. We rented all of the Halloween movies. The first one was ok, but there wasn't all that much murdering. The second one was all right I guess, but it was a little fake (we had a few screams I might add ;-) ) the third one threw the sixth one was just down right gay. But H2O, that was a good one. The girl having her leg almost separating from her body.....nasty but awesome. Resurrection was not only scary but suspenseful, funny, and well nasty. So the newer ones are better, but I guess you still cant beat the originals!

Who doesn't love this movie? I meen, who would of thought a man with a white William Shattner mask could become a horror film icon.It is one of the best horror films ever, Alfred Hitchcock would have been proud.

Halloween is (in my opinion, at least) the scariest movie ever to come to the theatres. This movie was shot in 21 days at a budget of 320,000 dollars and has to date made over 50 million! The movie is about Michael Myers and his obsession to kill Laurie Strode. He is being followed by his psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis(Donald Pleasence) and the good doctor will stop at nothing until Michael is stopped. This film has some of the scariest music ever recorded and the scenery was nothing short of brilliant. This was also John Carpenter's second directorial effort,(his first being assault on precinct 13). It was so overwhelmingly popular that it spawned seven sequels (and the eighth one due out in march 2002). It is a must see for anbody who loves horror and loves halloween. In closing, Jamie Lee Curtis was nothing short of awesome playing Laurie Strode in this movie.
