Islam: What the West Needs to Know

Islam: What the West Needs to Know

Director: Bryan Daly, Gregory M. Davis Cast: Walid Shoebat, Abdullah Al-Araby

This documentary sets out to investigate the notion that Islam is a "religion of peace" and explore the widely circulated idea that those who commit violent acts in the name of Islam are a fanatic few. The filmmakers try to hold Islam's own sources to the light to make the controversial claim that the religion is actually driven by a violent, expansionary ideology that seeks to conquer any contradictory religion, culture, and, ultimately, government.

This documentary is clear and well informed. Robert Spencer, author of Politically Incorrect Guide to Islam (and the Crusades and Muhammad: Founder of the World's most Intolerant Religion among other books, is just one of several authorities on the Qur'an and the Hadith ( sayings or actions of Muhammad) both of which must be understood to understand Islam. One commentator, I cannot recall his name, grew up as a Palestinian, was taught in a Madras that taught the form and definition of Jihad that al Qa'ida and Hamas practice. He admits to exploding one bomb in Israel, and later converting to Christianity. The theme of "Islam: What the West Needs to Know" has a similar theme to the book "A God Who Hates", by Wafa Sultan, who was born and became a doctor in Syria. She is under a death threat for her exchange with Islamist clerics in this youtube video The starting pace is a little slow, but the commentary and translated quotes from the Qur'an and hadiths increase one's interest. It explains that the verses are not written chronologically. There are verses that appear later, that are peaceful verses, the were written before verses that appear earlier. It also explains "abrogation", which means any verse that contradicts a verse that appears chronologically later is abolished or nullified by the later verse. The chronologically last book, The Book of the Sword, has no peaceful verses and abrogates previous verses that mention any sort of peaceful dealings regarding "people of the book"(Christians and Jews), or any other "infidels." A friend borrowed a copy and watched it with a visiting Egyptian Muslim friend. She told me he said "they are just trying to make it (Islam) look bad." I asked for specific inaccuracies and he didn't mention any, she said. I invited her to bring him to discuss it with me and he declined. That 'anonymous' equates Fundamentalist Christians and Muslims in there extremism is as far as you need to read. I can find that 5 doctors that performed abortions have been killed, by so-called, not self-proclaimed, Fundamentalist Christians, since 1973. Where are the masses of rioting, murderous, chanting crowds of these Fundamentalist Christians that are as equally threatening as radical Islamist? They don't exist. This is a must-see video. Buy it, watch it, and pass it along to others. DW

This documentary is filled with Islamic and Middle East Experts, although it is a bit lacking in research or references. this documentary quotes Sahih Bukhari, the Noble Quran and Ishaq's Sirah, but doesn't quote the Scholars of Islam, which certainly lacks credibility, however, it isn't wrong in saying that Islam ISN'T just a Religion, but it is a WAY OF LIFE for the ENTIRE WORLD to FOLLOWSUIT.

this is not about islam it is about shia islam and is so biased that it has no real noteworthy information and is mostly BS, not a trustworthy DVD. lacks understanding of Islam in general and actually downplays problems in islam. i personally think this propaganda and seriously lack usefulness. as a semi-educated person with knowlage of islam and knows muslims i seriously have a different view of islam then most people that are pro or against. personally i find radical judaism and fundamentalism chrsitians much more dangerous as a whole and have a hand in all the problems in the world and pose a greater danger to liberty and freedom in america. you have to read the Quran and tasfir (commentaries) to get understanding of islam and the dangers to the world because of radical islam. mudslinging does not educated anyone and muslims that claim to be moderate are silly. islam is a whole system of life not just a religion. one has to look at islam as a whole to really understand it. the men of the nashabandi army are a sufi group and are who we fight in iraq and the sufi orders have been involved in fighting more then any group of muslims. sufis the peaceful muslims? if you read the nashabandi books it is easy to prove their books are un-quranic lies and their opinion of salafis is incorrect. The ONLY American Islamic Leader who condemned the 9/11 attack vociferously and is critical of the bastardization of Islam is Sheikh Khabanni. Yet he is NOT INCLUDED in the NEW "Moderately" "Re-organized" American Muslim Council nor ANY "Moderate" American Muslim organization, which he says is funded and run by the Wahabi Extremists who have actually bastardized real Islam. the man lies about islam and the quran and is easy proved to be anti-islamic and support infighting and is more of a danger to america then any single person or group in islam. the so called violent and radical salafis and wahabis are peaceful compared to radical violent sufis, most sufis are baathists that should say something. the saudis are much more sane, educated and peaceful compared to sufi orders and the ones to fear are the ones that claim to be peaceful. learn about islam before you form an opinion. the image of islam is very backwards and what americans know about islam is very slanted on the side of those that are non-muslims that are pro-muslim and the ones against islam are clueless also. this is a waste of time.
