James and the Giant Peach, is a story of sadness, magic, and a lot of hope. It's the story of a small boy James and his horrible life living with his wicked aunts until one day a little magic happens, and his whole life is changed, FOREVER. This book shows how a little magic can go a long way, and how in the end things usually work out in ways you can't imagine. James parents are dead, and not only do his to acts yell at him in his care, but beat him, and make sure he feels worthless. But James knows there's more out there to see, and hopes of someday escaping. He's forced to chop firewood one day and finds a strange man there, but he's not afraid. The man gives him a bag filled with more magic one can explain, James is unaware that this magic, could take him halfway across the world, with sights of cloud men, sharks, and giant creatures but he's soon to find out. When all this magic is held in one bag, in James' tiny hands, he watches all the magic slip away from him by one mistake. His life is ruined. Or so he thought? With one dose of magic to an unfertile peach tree, a peach begins to grow. Not only is this peach used for transportation for James in the future but home to many friends with hopes of adventure. And that's exactly what they get.

''James and the Giant Peach'' is a uniquely artistic, funny, adventuresome experience for viewers of all ages. It's a surrealistic, ''Cinderella'' meets the ''Wizard of Oz'' meets ''The Nightmare Before Christmas''...only better!!!! Parts are almost reminiscent of today's rock videos (Creed, et al)----incredible!

We purchased this DVD as a companion to the book "James and the Giant Peach," by Roald Dahl for our grandson at Christmas. It is well animated and sticks to the book and to the author's intent. As a former English teacher, I have found that the good or well produced movie enhances any good book and encourages children and adults to read. This is a good way to stay bonded to your children or grandchildren, no matter their age. Our sons, now grown with families of their own, still recommend good DVD's, movies, or videos to us and we to them. We all still like to discuss the well made movie with each other when we visit. All of us always try to read the book first if we can. Good movies are great fun, but reading is the best thing of all.

IT TOOK ME TO THIS YEAR TO FIND THIS MOVIE ON DVD. IT IS THE LOVE OF MY GRANDSONS LIFE. HE IS NOW 10 AND HE STILL FEELS THAT WAY. I GAVE IT TO HIM FOR EASTER AND HE SAID IT WAS BETTER THAN THE CANDY. IT'S FUN FOR EVERYONE. ALL FAMILIES SHOULD HAVE THIS ONE IN THEIR HOME DVD LIBRARY.

You will find yourself drawn into this flick! It's a true modern day masterpiece. If you like Tim Burton's work, you've got to catch this one; it's a beautiful piece of work that'll grab at your heart right from the start and take it on a rollercoaster ride. Awesome, awesome, awesome!

What can I say? Tim Burton worked on this film. It's amazing the detail that was thought about in making this movie. And what a wonderful classic story to draw from. Highly recommended!!!!

When I think of this I think of that scary Rhino. This is the story of James who finds a giant peach and lives with his seriously creepy aunts ever. He meets a mysterious guy with one weird eye and travels inside the giant peach meeting interesting bugs like the black widow who was one of my fave characters. The scene with the frozen ice and the ship was pretty cool especially with the sword fight scene with the Centipede. The ending was good and that rhino is still creepy even today.

I saw this movie when I was in elementary school on a field trip and we went to the park for lunch. Before we were getting ready to leave the park, I wanted to use the restroom beofre we left. I shouted at one of the teachers because she wouldn't let me use it. My teacher told me to owe the person an apology and I refused because she wouldn't let me use the restroom. I was not allowed to go on their next field trip with them as a result.

I went to see James and the Giant Peach on a field trip when I was in elementary school once. We went to the park for lunch and when we were getting ready to leave. I wanted to use the restroom before we left the park and I shouted at one of the teachers for not letting me use it and my teacher told me to owe the person an apology and I refused because she wouldn't let me use the restroom. I was not allowed to go on their next field trip with them as a result.
