What makes this music is the great musical communication between Jeff Beck and the young lady who plays the bass. She is so musical and the most expressive electric bass player I have ever heard. These aren't party songs to bang heads to, and it isn't the familiar stuff for singing around the campfire. But if you enjoy hearing quality instrumental music played by musicians who take great pride in the way they sound, then this concert is for you.

jeff beck live at ronnie scott's in london is a must have for any beck fans. forty plus years after starting out in england beck is still at the top of his game and this concert shows why. his band is excellent and the young prodigy from down under tal walkenfeld is a wonderful bass player; she takes one solo that beck throws up his hands and bows down to; i believe she was only twenty-two at the time of this show. i think of her as the new jaco pastorious. also clapton plays two excellent songs joining beck and band onstage; the other highlights are joss stone singing two songs and imogen heap singing two songs, one of those, "blanket", was my favorite cut in this set. there are also cuts of famous londoners as well as a quick cut of a silver-haired jimmy page enjoying the show in the audience. all in all a concert i would have liked to have attended but this dvd is the next best thing and jeff when are you going to tour the united states?

It's really great to see an icon like Jeff, in a slightly different context: a medium size nightclub, instead of a large stadium. He meets the acoustic challenge, and utilizes his gifted band to help him achieve this. The band features the new and very talented (and young!) Tal Wilkenfeld on bass, and veterans Vinnie Colaiuta - drums, and Jason Rebello - keys. The video really downplays Jason, rarely putting any light on him, or featuring him on solos. It seems more like a trio gig, with an invisible keyboardist. The best part of this performance is the obvious delight that Jeff takes in playing with this great band. In particular, the bass solo on "Cause We've Ended As Lovers", stands out as a high point. There are guest artists on the disc that contribute nicely, if unevenly. Eric Clapton plays decent straight ahead blues, but is pretty much dwarfed by Jeff, musically. Joss Stone and Imogen Heap sing 4 tunes, and the best is Joss's "People Get Ready". This live performance is truly thrilling, and documents Jeff Beck's music in the best way possible.

Jeff Beck has always been in a class by himself. On this DVD he has assembled a band that is in a class by itself. Vinnie Colaiuta is phenomenal throughout as are Tal Wilkenfeld and Jason Rebello. This is a BAND !!! Four musicians thinking and playing as one pushing each other to their limits, constantly surprising each other and themselves in the process. If you're into creative improvisation, you'll love this DVD. The bonus with the Big Town Playboys also brings out an interesting side of Jeff. The interview with Jeff shows an amazing sense of humility for one of the true icons of the rock world.

This dvd is top quality from beginning to end. Beck's artistry is mesmerizing and the style most akin to jazz as anything else. To me this music is more enjoyable when you can watch it being performed on a dvd as well as listen to it. Beck himself is obviously very uncomfortable when he has to say anything before the audience. But he has a warm smile, and when he picks up his guitar .! There's also an intriguing sideline going on here generated by the presence of the pretty, baby-faced Tal Wilkenfeld as Beck's bassist. Talk about beauty and the beast! Wilkenfeld plays up to this contrast smartly and it all just adds to the electricity. What a great dvd this would be to have on during a party.

Mesmerizing guitar playing. Really allows Jeff to shine. Good sit-in guests also but Jeff's the star here.

Anyone who has followed Jeff Beck's history knows that being ahead of the curve and somewhat reclusive set some limits in terms of commercial success but has provided a continual and satisfying career. Jeff Beck became famous in the mid sixties as the guitarist who replaced Eric Clapton in the Yardbirds and he is linked to many: Jimmy Page, Ronny Wood, Keith Moon, Rod Stewart, Tim Bogert, Carmine Appice, Stevie Wonder, Cozy Powell, Max Middleton, Mick Jagger, Jan Hammer, Tony Hymas, Terry Bozzio etc etc. the list goes on. This DVD provides a unique opportunity to understand why that list is so long and why Jeff Beck has enjoyed his position ahead of the curve for so many years. The music is both varied and fabulous, the closeup shots of Jeff's guitar work provide unique insight into his playing skills, none of this switching guitars and amplifiers hype for every song ... the same Marshall half stacks, the same Fender Strat, the same pickup settings for each, many of the sonic variations being created by a unique combination of synchronisation between the fingers, bottleneck, volume control and tremelo arm. The band is outstanding as are the guest artists. Check out the two songs with Eric Clapton and make an objective decision on who is the better !!
