Kill Bill Vol. 1

Perhaps the most highly anticipated film of 2003, Kill Bill Vol. 1 marked the return of renowned filmmaker Quentin Tarantino after a six-year hiatus. Re-teaming the director with Uma Thurman for the first time since 1994's Pulp Fiction, the film was originally the first half of what was to be a three-hour-plus movie before being split into two films. Thurman stars as The Bride, one-fifth of a team of assassins called DiVAS. When The Bride opts to leave the outfit for a life of marital bliss, it doesn't sit well with her boss, Bill (David Carradine), so he has her former cohorts, played by Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Daryl Hannah, and Michael Madsen, show up at the nuptials, leaving behind a blood bath. Miraculously, The Bride survives a bullet to the head and, four years later, she sets out for revenge against her four assassins and their employer. The story is concluded in Kill Bill Vol. 2, released six months later.

This film is so unbelievably cool that I was born anew in its genius. An instant classic.Quentin Tarantino took the underrated 'spaghetti-western',samurai and 'blaxpoitation' genres, and put them together with his own style and infused it with pure coolness to achieve cinematic greatness. This film is intoxicating in the way it seamlessly blends action, humor and storytelling.Truly brilliant.

This is Quentin's third best (behind Pulp Ficion and Resevoir Dogs). It is a very well made, action-packed movie that still feels like Tarantino. This is worlds better than the dissapointing 2nd part. I don't understand why everyone is so mad because of the action if it was gone, would it really be all that good? NO! This isn't a kids' movie either, so don't complain about the violence and gore. This movie really stood out, and the additions like the anime sequence and characters like Hatori Hanzo made this movie absolutely perfect.

This movie is a new generation of a Tarentino film. Yeah, his movies are VERY violent, but that is not the thing. The thing is that, his movies entertain us. Kill Bill Vol.1 is most certainly going to entertain you. Sure, there are some slow points, but it's a Tarentino film for god's sake. You need to know the story. And the story sends a message. You can not trust everyone.

Wow..."kill bill" is some of Tarantino's best work! He is always way ahead of the "next big thing" and I think that he is a genious. Casting David Carradine as Bill, Uma Thurman as the Bride, and Lucy Liu as O-Ren Ishii was the best thing he could've done. Some people "get" the humor in the outrageous fight scenes, laugh at the blood and love it...but some don't and freak out. So, if you like his other work and can stand the sight of blood,I HIGHLY RECCOMEND "KILL BILL".

The first installment of the Kill Bill series is one of Quentin Tarantino¿s finest! All Tarantino fans will be more than pleased. It is a nonstop roller coaster ride of carefully crafted fight sequences and blood spurting action that puts slasher flicks to shame. The excessive splatter of blood in nearly every scene and limited dialogue holds up to the formula of the original Kung Fu movies and you will find yourself laughing along at the absurdity of it. Kill Bill Vol. 1 is a nice blend of Kung Fu and anime with a little western twist to it that will have you hooked from the opening scene. The story is also riveting. You really connect with Uma Thurman¿s character and are rooting for her the whole way through. It's the best movie since Pulp Fiction. Can¿t wait for the next installment!

You know I¿m reading these other reviews on Kill Bill and it seems the approval rating is about 50/50. I then think to my self, how can this be? Quentin Tarantino is one of the greatest film makers of all time, take Pulp Fiction for example, one of the most influential movies of the 90s, scratch that ¿the¿ most influential movie. Kill Bill is like a foreign language to some because of ignorance or cultural differences. Japanese is a beautiful language to most, but obscure and grotesque to some whom lack the vocabulary to understand its beauty. Some speak of violence or gore in the film with the same lack of understanding or ignorance. Tarantino is trying to fuse Japanese Yakuza and Samurai movies, water it down till its palatable to a U.S. audience to present a masterpiece. Seems like all the great directors whom you all love have a great respect for Asian cultures, Lucas with his Jedi or should we say Samurai or Spielberg with Road to Perdition, its been done before with Lone Wolf and Cub. Tarantino¿s ability to stylize his film with music and anime is a respectfully refreshing new concept in American cinema has gone un matched in originality. This movie is a must buy.

This is by far Quentin's Best! I went behind my parent's back to see this film, and have bought it. I waited months to see this film about revenge! Uma Thurman is now my favorite actress, i even liked her in "My Super ex Girlfriend." This film is cheezy gore, so people afraid of blood can laugh during this sleaze-filled-saga. And this is only the first half! The scenes in Anime, though? Come on, Quentin! But the scenes she kills, the movie explodes with violence. I loved the crazy 88, but even the small scenes (Vivian Green) were amazing. This is not a Quentin drag on film. In fact, there are little scenes that don't end into a severed head or a ripped out tongue. Beats even Pulp Fiction & Death Proof! Don't miss this revenge film best served cold...

Kill Bill Vol.1 to me represents the ultimate in the post-modern action/ hero movie genre, simply because you have a woman in the title role, as opposed to those mid 80's early 90's action duds (ex. Stallone, Seagal, Van Damme)--With the rise in action heroines on both TV and Film, this movie shows the power, grace, and viciousness women can wield. Note that most of The Bride's enemies are women. Kill Bill vol. 1 is a mod. movie classic in the sense that it succeeds in both the visual and audio aspects--much like Pulp Fiction. The soundtrack is up for a grammy this year. Most of you who didnt see the movie in theatres with the awesome sound system, may not get the same impact of as i did, but nonetheless its still great. (esp the little bit tracks) You dont get too many movies like this--thanks to Mr. Tarantino and Ms. Thurman and everyone else involved in making this movie. It has definately inspired me to create my own work.

I have enjoyed previous films by this director, and always anything starring Uma Thurman - but this was a terrible let down. The directing was almost child like, the special effects (especially the gore-pumping hacked off limbs) grew tiresome. The obvious plagarism of the Ironside theme was offensive, and didn't fit. I used to wonder about the human values of those who produced or starred in this gratuitous offal-now I wonder about a culture that gives this worthless film any credibility.

I absolutely loved this movie and its sequel, and it was a gateway for me to other films by director quentin tarantino and others. people think that tarantino wanted us to take the gore seriously instead it was a comedy mechanism, and i find it a little disturbing that people think that they should take it seriously, because it was so blatenly fake. truthfully the violence isn't that bad, yes it is worse than that of other movies, but the gore and violence is so artificial that it isn't sqeamishly unbearable. also, for you to watch a quentin tarantino movie you have to know quentin tarantino and his style of directing. he very frequently takes elements from other movies and apply them to his, so the claim that this movie is plaigerism would be correct, but not fair i mean look at pulp fiction that movie cranks out references and material from other movies almost non-stop, and yet it is a great movie. and if you are so worried about you children watching it don't let them. i think this is more of a defense than a review, but i extremely adore and enjoyed this movie along with volume 2.

Uma Thurman kicks a** in this movie...and i mean that literally. Great directing by Quentin. Genious.

This film has no plot at all. It has no character depth and we never feel for them. So what is so good about it? Well, quite about everything. The movie is a pure parody of the old Japanese martial arts movies. People have made parodies of the old martial arts movies before by trying to hard to make the audience laugh. They usually don't. The movie is stylish and fill with action. Out of all of it, the movie makes no sense at all. But that is the point when you think about it. The old fighting movies didn't make sense either. All overly done violence and the cheesy dialogue is merely a successful imiation of the old movies. I would say that this is one of the best movies of the year.

This is the greatest movie I have seen in a long time. Quentin tarantino is a genius. I can't wait until Kill Bill Vol. 2 comes out in Feb. Uma Thurman is perfect as 'the bride'. Lucy Liu is also great as well as the actress who played GoGo. I love this movie and highly recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind a lot of blood.

Kill Bill vol.1 was the most awsome, best, most action packed movie I have ever seen in my life. The story is great from beginning to end. It is unique and filled with many surprises(like the anime scene, sorry if I spoiled it for you) and of course lots of gore. I cannot imagine this movie without all of the gore and violence. If you haven't seen this movie you might as well have never lived. It is in my opinion Quentin's best movie and the best movie of the decade. It never gets boring and the martial arts is excellent. I gurantee that anyone who likes violence and a good action movie with a good story they will love this movie. I can't wait until Kill Bill vol.2 comes to theaters.

Alot of people don't understand Tarantio's style of humor and storytelling. It's a basic revenge style movie. Kill Bill Vol 1 one was everything I expect from a Tarantino movie and more. I love sword fights and duels, Uma Thurman was hella sexy throuhout the movie. Slicing her way threw everyone and everything. I guess no one got that the Violence in the movie was suppose to be not believeable, your suppose to laugh at it. The movie makers were not trying to make a realistic film. Just a fun movie all around, 5 stars. Kill Bill Vol 2 was suprisingly more human of a movie, but still equally good as the first. If you like old Kung-Fu movies, this is a must own on DVD.

Q does it again and throws in a little more to this excellent blend of kung fu, western, and just plain fun. Anyone who doesn't see this film, doesn't need to be watching movies. And even though it was the first half of a whole movie, it felt like a full movie. Sure I was left wondering what was going to happen, but I felt closure anyway. If you love girls, humor, samurai blades, or just a great plot, watch this film.

I missed this in the theaters, and I've been anxiously waiting for it to come out on DVD. I wasn't disappointed. This isn't normally the type of movie I would plan to see -- it was more that the title had originally caught my attention, and seeing trailers of it piqued my interest. It didn't seem like I'd been sitting there for nearly 2 hours watching a movie; there was so much happening so fast, the time passed quickly. I had read that the violent parts didn't seem so violent, since they were so overdone it was humorous. That was definitely correct. Overall, much better than I was expecting; I know I'm going to watch it several more times before I have to return the DVD, and even though it's only three days, I'm very much looking forward to vol. 2.

This movie is the BEST Quentin Tarantino film yet. The Special FX were GREAT. The plot was THE BEST and the acting was great.
