The director of such highly regarded films as Yellow Earth (1984) and Farewell, My Concubine (1993), Chinese filmmaker Chen Kaige makes his English-language debut with this erotic thriller adapted from the novel by Nicci French. Alice (Heather Graham) is an American Web designer living in Illinois who falls for a ruggedly handsome mountain climber named Adam (Joseph Fiennes). Bored with her dull love live, sparks begin to fly when Alice and Adam have a chance meeting at a stoplight, and it isn't long before the couple are living together and Adam proposes. With their heated romance taking on hints of mild S & M following their wedding, Alice's realization that she knows very little about her new spouse begins to take on ominous undertones when she discovers that his former fiancée died under mysterious circumstances. Allegations of rape and more missing lovers soon prompt Alice to continue her increasingly disturbing investigation toward answers she may not be ready to accept.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
A hypnotically fascinating tale of illicit passion and deadly deception, Killing Me Softly is one of the most erotic thrillers to hit the screen in recent memory. This tense adaptation of Nicci French’s bestselling novel offers Heather Graham the best role she’s had since Boogie Nights, and the depiction of her steamy sexual odyssey is an envelope-pushing triumph, thanks to the sure-handed direction of Chen Kaige. Graham portrays an American research scientist living in London, trapped in a mundane job and committed to an unfulfilling relationship. A handsome, charismatic mountaineer (Joseph Fiennes) with a mysterious past lures her out of her routine. Their secretive affair, typified by kinky sex and unnecessarily risky antics, jolts the scientist out of her complacency -- until she accidentally discovers that her lover has been involved in some particularly seamy activities. Graham and Fiennes sizzle in their sex scenes, while Natasha McElhone and Ian Hart offer able support. As usual for such films, the viewer is led down the garden path toward one conclusion and then abruptly diverted as unexpected events point to a shocking surprise ending. Killing Me Softly makes a worthy addition to the roster of erotically charged suspense films that includes Body Heat, Basic Instinct, and Body of Evidence.

Irresistable A suspensful, and intese movie. This will keep people guessing. This is also Heather Graham's most revealing and erotic role.

I suggest this movie to anyone who likes something thrilling and totally sexy. It's not just a smutty movie about sex but it is involves it. The story is there and it will keep you guessing. It's not the kind of movie you will need to watch over and over again to get but you might want to anyway for the steamy sex scenes. I loved it

A soft-porn film whose efforts to ascend at being a Hitchcock thriller are so weak that it dashes down to the bottom in the first half-hour. The story is so utterly superficial and psuedo-intellectual that you will fall asleep even with the filler erotic scenes. The movie seeks to capture the theme of an unaroused woman who seeks a more exciting man in her life and encounters a mysterious writer-mountain climber to fill her passions. She soon feels that she got more than than she bargained for which is certainly not how you will feel watching this movie. The story is capricious and pretentious, the script is tedious, while the acting is as devoid of all emotion as a Kevin Costner monologue. The actor playing the adventurous mountain climber seems to be too bored with life to even bother remembering his role or utter a single passionate line. Dont't waste your time or money on this one, it will kill you softly without a doubt.

You can tell by the front cover of the DVD what to expect of this movie. I appreciated the fact that this movie got right to the point of what i wanted to see. There are three sex scenes in the movie, all of them are worth watching. If you enjoy a good escape from day to day life, where an intense, handsome man wisks you away to pleasure you've never known. then is a movie you need to buy.YES! YES! YES!
