King Lear

This disc captures a production of King Lear with Laurence Olivier in the title role. The DVD offers a standard full-frame transfer. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Stereo. There are neither subtitles nor closed-captions on this release. Supplemental materials include biographies of William Shakespeare and Olivier, an Olivier filmography, character descriptions, a plot summary, and a scene-by-scene outline of the play. This is a fine release from Kultur that should be of interest to any theater enthusiast. The disc should also be of use to teachers in a classroom setting.

Very engaging presentation of a classic. Olivier's talent makes this a gem.

I don't know what is the best: the writer, the play, or the cast. The correct answer is: yes. Even if you don't like Shakespeare, if you give it a chance, you'll like this movie.
