Overview

Last of the Summer Wine: Vintage 1982-1983

For decades - long enough to qualify it as one of the longest-running situation comedies in history - the British series Last of the Summer Wine retained a vast and loyal audience in its native United Kingdom. Written by humorist Roy Clarke, it told of a trio of old codgers in Holmfirth, West Yorkshire, England, best pals who never let their advanced ages stand in the way of youthful folly or zany stunts. In lieu of keeping a fixed line-up, however, the program frequently changed its leads from series to series, a necessary element given the death of one of the originals in 1978 and another in 1999. This particular set contains all of series 6 and all of series 7, originally broadcast in 1982 and 1983 respectively. In these 15 episodes, Compo (Bill Owen), Clegg (Peter Sallis) and Foggy (Brian Wilde) engage in adventures including a run-in with a stubborn dog, a hunt for a pair of new blue jeans, a quest to have a photograph taken in Nurse Batty's boudoir, and many other colorful go-rounds.

I have watched Last of The Summer Wine on PBS. This is my first purchase of the DVD's. This was a good choice because I am most familiar with Compo, Clegg and Foggy. It has quite a bit of humor with a fair amount of panoramic scenes filmed in West Yorkshire. The changes over the years have been due to different people involved in the production. This is a good place to start collecting the different sets. I have watched B&N and the prices seem to fluctuate. I have not seen the whole series from when the show began until the last episode. This is the longest running sit-com on television. Start collecting where you want to and fill in as you can. I have noticed there have been more sets come out for Region 1(North America) recently.
