Join host Lance Alexander, an acknowledged expert in the field of Anglo-Saxon History, as he explores the West Show Angle-Saxon village that was settled until 650 A.D., the era when the poem of Beowulf was composed and recited by the bards. It was during the 1960s and '70s that archeologists first discovered a settlement of over seventy houses in the area, with the earliest remains reaching back to 420 B.C. It was around that time that the Roman legions withdrew from Britain, opening the door for the Anglo Saxon invasions. Since the discovery, eight of those houses have been reconstructed. Now, travel back in time with West Stow ranger Alexander as he reveals what life was like when one of history's timeless legends was born.
