Should almost be required watching for innocent girls with questionable ambitions. A great production.

The character of Lillie Langtrey has popped up in several movies and books I have read. I didn't research her background before viewing the film, so I'm not sure how historically acurate it might be. Franceca Annis is one of my favorite actresses and that was another reason I wanted to watch this. She was believable as both the innocent 16 year old and the elderly Lillie. Lillie as very unconventional in a world that had very restrictive cultural rules. That conflict was the center of the plot for me. The actor who played Oscar Wilde did so with flair but was not over the top. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys a detailed story line that moves at a slow pace (these are high recommendations for me). Slow does not always have to be a bad thing...you get a chance to really know the characters and their motivations. I like to savor the characters and am always interested by anything involving the Victorian era.

I watch this mini series when it orginally aired on PBS and absolutely loved it. I am thrilled that it is now available on DVD, I am looking forward to Francesca Annis' fabulous preformance.
