Malcolm in Middle: the Complete First Season

The hit TV show Malcolm in the Middle hits DVD in a three disc set titled Malcolm in the Middle: The Complete First Season. Each of these episodes is presented in a cropped 1.33:1 full-frame transfer (the show was originally shot in 1.78:1 widescreen) and sports a few minor imperfections (i.e., grain and some softness in the image). Otherwise, these are fine-looking transfers that feature solid black levels and usually crisp colors. The soundtracks are presented in Dolby Digital 4.0 Surround in English. These mixes are better than expected when it comes to dynamic range and ambient sound. While none of the episodes' soundtracks will blow fans away, overall they sound exceptionally nice for a prime-time TV show. Also included on these discs are English subtitles. Fox has done a fine job at adding some bonus materials to this set, including commentary tracks on every episode by various cast and crew members, including creator Linwood Boomer, directors Todd Holland and Arlene Sanford, writers Alex Reid and Michael Glouberman, and stars Frankie Muniz and Bryan Cranston. Each of these tracks feature a plethora of production information, funny anecdotes about the shoots, and other tidbits for fans to chew on. Also included is an optional ID track which allows the viewer to know who is speaking at any given time. Next up is "Malcolm Vision" which looks at why the film was cropped to a full-frame transfer instead of presented in its original widescreen ratio. Two featurettes -- "Malcolm in the Middle: A Stroke of Genius" and "Dewey's Day Job: A Portrait of Erik Per Sullivan" -- take a look at what goes on behind the scenes of the show. The first featurette includes cast and crew interviews about the show while the second focuses on child actor Erik Per Sullivan and what he does when he's not in front of the camera. Finally there is a gag reel of bloopers by the cast, a behind-the-scenes montage set to upbeat music, some weird intros by the cast, and a few promo TV spots for the show.

We watch these DVDs over and over again. This show is hilarious! I really liked the extras and behind the scenes stuff too - found out Dewey's home town is just 10 minutes from us! I cannot wait until season 2 comes out!

Malcolm In The Middle Is the closest a show can get to being the way a real American family goes about there daily life. I will be very disapointed if there won't be anymore seasons coming out. Why Have they not released anymore?? Please Explain it to me. Season 1 is a instant classic. My favorite is "The Red Dress". I highly reccommend everyone to buy it.

Would it have killed them to throw in the first episode of the second season? Instead they throw in the usual

One of the best American TV comedies of all time. Superb acting by all the main characters, great direction, humor and camera work. Will be buying all the seasons as soon as available!

"MITM" & "Barney Miller" are the only two shows that kept me laughing out loud from their beginnings to their ends. It's a real shame that their entire catalogs aren't available. Why won't they indulge us people who have brains & know that laughter is the best medicine?

Malcolm, Francis, Dewey, Reese, and their parents Hal and Lois, are a smoking family! 'Wonder When ''Malcolm in the Middle: Season 2'' is arriving!? I can't wait! Frankie Muniz is the greatest person to portary a 9-year-old boy who is smarter than the rest of his class and to top it off, his family is the worst he could ever ask for. Malcolm and his older brother Reese, make a pair: fights, winning tickets to go to Rage In The Cage, which brother loves Francis more contests, they really sound like they are brothers in real life. Good thing they aren't they'd rip eachother's heads off after one minute.

This is the best DVD I have seen. When I got it I watched all the shows. One right after another, none stop. They were just so funny. I wish that they would put season 2,3,4,5 ect. out so I could watch them too. All in all this DVD set is great and Malcom in the Middle is a show foe the ages.

I'm now officially hooked on Malcolm in the Middle after I got the first season DVD set. Can't wait for season 2!!! The funeral episode is a crackup as is Malcolm learning to skate.

The first season of Malcolm in the Middle, directed by Lynwood Boomer, includes simply amazing episodes about a typical American family. What makes this show unique is that instead of being about a false family where everything is pefect, this show is something every person can relate to. This show is also very well-written, as opposed to some sitcoms that contain weak jokes. The only negatives about the first season of this show is that the episodes take a bit long to explain the history about the family and that the kids are still young and are not as funny as future seasons. Other than that, the first season of this show is simply genius!

I think Malcolm in the Middle created its best work in the first season when Malcolm was younger. We have watched these shows in the car on our DVD player, around the fireplace and in hotels when we travel. It's fantastic! I can't wait for season two to be released. Our kids are aged 10 and 14. They loves the shows.

The Complete First Season shines with it's fast pace contemporary humor and camera shots. If you are like me and have never seen the Fox show I highly recomend the DVD. It's high quality and a good price.
