Overview

Jordan Melamed directs Don Cheadle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Zooey Deschanel in the psychological drama Manic. The film makes its debut on DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. English and Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Melamed and actor Michael Bacall, deleted scenes with optional commentary recorded by Melamed, and the original theatrical trailer. This is a solid presentation of a little-seen film.

This movie was intense and wonderful. I loved the filming style, it was different from other indie movies i've seen. I personally fell in love with this movie. I've seen it twice and i had to buy it. I recommend it. The lack of make up made it real and easy to relate too, because not everyone is perfect. I fell in love with Joseph Gordon Levitt's acting in this movie. It was by far his best.

This movie was so amazing. It was so deep and showed so many point of views, it really opened me up to the real world. I loved how this movie was filmed. Where the actors and actresses had imperfections on their bodies, whether is be blemished are zits, they let them be shown. I also loved the camera techniques, how it would wobble at a still moment. Just amazing. I watched it two times in a row, I was greatly touched by this movie and you will too.

I first caught "Manic" on my university's local movie channel and I fell in love with it right away. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, as well as supporting cast such as the lovely Zooey Deschanel and Don Cheadle, effortlessly portray a tense and emotional environment that really brings the film to life. Aided by the fact that the movie was shot entirely freehand with a simple digital video camera and a subtle and sparse soundtrack, the film puts the viewer in the institution right along with the cast. Despite the characters being emotionally damaged and often times violent, this film makes you feel like you can relate to them and understand their anguish and pain. I wouldn't say it's a feel-good movie, but it's definitely a movie that makes you want to root for the underdog. The movie ends with a beautifully lit shot that ties everything together and leaves the viewer completely satisfied. I recommend it to those who like indie flicks.

This is why I like indie films. Everything about this film, the camera angles, music, acting, scenes, fell into a near flawless harmony. I could never tire watching this film.
