This American version of a hit British series didn't last too long, despite the presence of Rob Schneider in the lead role and Justine Bateman (of Family Ties) as the female lead (though she left early in the run of the show). Still, it attracted a strong cult following thanks to Schneider and its outrageously sexist humor (which, like the writing on Married . . . With Children, another series that critics hated but which the public truly loved, was always more clever than it was given credit for). This 4-platter set comprises the complete run, in what is basically a no-frills DVD edition, with a good full-screen (1.33-to-1) presentation and, officially at least, no extras. Schneider is probably too busy to be approached about doing commentary, and Bateman and fellow co-star Ron Eldard left mid-way through the run of the series, so none of the principal cast was available. It does contain the seven unaired episodes that were left in the can when the series was cancelled midway through its second season, and so will be of special interest to fans. Schneider completists (there must be some out there) will have to have it on that basis alone -- sad to say however, as the unaired episodes are from the second season, they're intrinsically less interesting than they would have been with that original cast. Otherwise, the discs all open with the usual Shout Factory logos and promos for other series, which can be skipped by the impatient. And the show is a lot of fun, at least as a guilty pleasure.
