Overview

When it originally aired in the mid-90s, My So-Called Life was greeted with critical acclaim and a ferociously loyal cult following for its sharp and layered depiction of coming of age as an American teenager at the end of the 20th century. Unfortunately, it was not met with spectacular ratings and was cancelled by ABC after only 19 episodes. Naturally, fans clamored for a proper DVD treatment, and in 2002, a complete series box-set was released. And while it finally allowed viewers to revisit the show, it was an imperfect release. The image quality left something to be desired and there was a lack of bonus features to accompany the episodes. Finally, with the release of this set from Shout! Factory, there is justice. Each episode has been digitally remastered and presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. Moreover, there are a wealth of special features, including interviews, featurettes about the characters and music, and--best of all--cast and crew commentary on seven episodes. Once and for all, a dedicated fanbase has gotten what they'd long hoped for. This is the definitive My So-Called Life DVD release.

MY SO-CALLED LIFE, created by Winnie Holtzman, was a brilliant mixture of comedy and melodrama, pale skin and paler moods. It was an introduction to some of the greatest teen actors of our time (AJ Langer, Jared Leto, Clare Danes, Wilson Cruz, etc.) and a showcase for wonderful writing and plotting. It dealt with issues that no show would again in quite the same way before BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER came along to sweep a nation off its feet. It is CLASSIC TV!

Every girl between the ages of 25 and 30 should know and love this show. Jordan Catalano is the essence of the high school crush and Angela defines earnest akwardness. This wasn't available for awhile so don't let it go this time!

It is a good show. Ending was like a cliffhanger. Another good show that got canceled. It's kinda nostalgic, especially the theme song which is pretty cool.

If you are a teen, live with a teen, are waiting to be a teen, remember being a teen you will relate.

My So-Called Life was a great series that was cancelled much too early. Every episode had moments of joy and moments of anguish. The characters were well-written and well-acted. I related to the high school aged characters when the series was first aired and now as I rewatch the DVD's 15 years later, I relate to the parent characters also. The character of Ricky is still my favorite. He was a sweet and sad outsider. Totally relateable.

The bonus commentary from the creators was interesting but I found the commentary from the actors less interesting. There is a reason why writers write and actors act.
