Overview

Napoleon Dynamite

From the ashes of filmmaker Jared Hess' hilarious short film Peluca comes this tale of tots, moon boots, and one of the most unlikely screen heroes ever to step before the cameras as 20th Century Fox brings the breakout indie hit Napoleon Dynamite to DVD. Viewable in either 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen or 1.33:1 pan-and-scan, the image looks great as wood paneling and drab carpeting fill the frame with a startlingly authentic Midwestern malaise rarely captured on film. Colors are evenly balanced, and there is little evidence of digital artifacting or edge enhancement. Audio is presented in English Dolby Digital 5.1 and Spanish Dolby Digital Surround with optional English, Spanish, and French subtitles. An audio commentary with director Hess, producer Jeremy Coon, and actor Jon Heder is fairly lightweight, with the trio frequently joking and offering fun trivia about the film rather than focusing on technical details. Optional commentary is also provided on the pre-Napoleon Dynamite short film Peluca, and it's fun to see the lead character's origins in the entertaining student film. A hilarious gallery of still images highlights some of the quirky details seen all too briefly in the actual feature, and viewers are offered the opportunity to see Napoleon in action on the kickball field in a collection of deleted scenes. For those who just can't get enough, the filmmakers have taken a trip back to Preston to film "The Wedding of the Century," and viewers are offered the opportunity to join them as they reunite to film an additional scene. The cast is obviously having a great time coming together again, and the feature provides an excellent opportunity for the actors to reveal what appealed to them about the characters and the script. Napoleon Dynamite fans will certainly find much to enjoy on this fantastic 20th Century Fox release.

this is probably one of the funniest movies of all time. there is no grey area with this movie, you either love it or you hate it. Ex. my friends and i went to see it and even though the theatre was full we were the only people laughing or who understood the humor in the movie

This movie was the most incredibly boring piece of crap I've ever seen. Someone said that it's not supposed to have a plot it's just supposed to be about real life. This is the real life of an idiot, which is not funny, as you might think. Movies need plots. Most people's lives are not interesting, so why make movies about them. These kids seemed like they should be in special ed (no offense to anyone who is actually disabled). This has no plot. I didn't want to see it. I only saw it to tell my friends, who loved it, that I despised it with every fiber of my being. I have nothing against independent or different films. I love Little Miss Sunshine, but this movie was an absolute disgrace. This just shows what society is coming to. People fawn all over this, but criticize REAL movies. DON'T WATCH THIS!!!

From start to finish one of the friggin' funniest shows ever made. The character that Jared Hess and friends created has got to be one of the funniest since Monty Python died out. We follow the dol-drum life of high school kid Napoleon as he entangles himself in situations most of us would have no trouble avoiding. But it is really the character and his funny little phrases that keep the audience peeing their pants from the start. I saw the original short film they made at Brigham Young University and was exstatic to see that yet another great idea was given a chance to succeed in our "only big dumb HOLLYWOOD movies can ever be successful" age, and it was well worth the risk. By far one of the best low budget films of all time!!! SO, MAKE ANOTHER ALREADY GUYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This movie was so funny!! The ppl who didn't like this movie have no sense of humor and probably thought Napoleon was cool or something. Or maybe it reminded them of themselves. You should rly watch this movie!!!!!!!!!!!

This movie was absolutely the most aweful movie I have ever seen! It is not at all funny. Instead, I simply found it to be a stupid, dumb movie. In addition, it had no plot, and all of the characters showed little intelligence or sensibility.

Like 'The Dude' from The Big Lebowski, Napoleon Dynamite is a truly original, funny, honest character. You don't really feel like you're watching a movie at all, and you don't want it to end. It has no real plot to think of, just interesting characters who will make you laugh. You'll be quoting it for weeks. Trust me. It's movies like this that give hope for original stories that break the formulaic status quo that seems to dominate the movie landscape. And if you watch it and don't like it, all I can say is... 'Idiot!' And if you do watch it and like it, well then, you're just.... 'Lucky!' Thanks for listening.

Wut wus going on??????????? I cant believe i rented it! all my friends think it wuz so awsome and are always quoting frum it, but the movie had no point at all. Seriously, who wants to watch a movie where a guy just goes around doing weird pointless things and living a pointless life? I completely hated it!!!!!!!!

Although I can concede that it doesn't have a lot in the way of a plot, this movie was one of the most entertaining, and, in a weird way, moving films I saw last year. The performances are great and hilarious, but the most striking thing is just how unembarrassed everyone in this movie is, how they just go for what they want without worrying what other people think. And it makes you think about how great that is, these people living the smallest lives (in other people's eyes) live them like they mean everything, utterly unselfconsciously. It's a kind of freedom, to be able to look at things that way, or maybe it's part of growing up in the middle of nowhere. Who knows? The point is, the character's have a lot of heart.

This movie will have a cult following, no doubt. I would not be shocked if you see t-shirts being made, quotes constantly cited, or actors asked to fill roles in more movies. This is nothing short of rolling on the floor laughing...

This movie FRICKIN RULES... all you chaunceys that gave it one star have to sit down and watch the movie again and stop treating it like a drama or romance movie...It's not..It's just pure comedy(Rex-kwon doe, Uncle rico throwin meat, egg farm job, Ligra's, 1% milk, Kip has the worst reflexes in the history of time...tether ball, Hunting wolverines in Alaska..Practicing my dance moves..Girls only like guys with sweet skills, bring me my chapstick..etc..etc..etc) The list doesn't end with this move..Watch it 10 times and you find something new to laugh about. BUY THIS MOVIE OR WATCH IT AT A FRIENDS HOUSE AND WHEN HE FALLS ASLEEP STEAL IT FROM HIM OR SWITCH IT FOR YOUR COPY OF MAID IN MANHATTAN OR SWIMFAN AT YOUR LOCAL VIDEO STORE!! Its sold out at the 2 video store's here in Canada!!

Number 1 anyone who doesn't like Napoleon Dynamite is a sap! This movie is the BOMB! I bought the soundtrack and i can't stop playing it! It's the best movie on earth! So yes if you didn't like it you're a dry, old, crusty-critter! (this is said from the bottom of my heart)

This move is sooo funny. It is like no matter how bad your day is going or how bored you are, when you watch this movie it makes your day. I so loved the lama and Pedro was my favorite person!!! There is like no really plot, which makes it funny. And it is like you know someone who acts just like Napoleon!

The movie was hilarious! Those who gave it one star are senseless. Kip, Uncle Rico, Debbie, Pedro and Napolean were all unique characters. Debbie the photographer, Kip and Rico the business men and Napolean, the idiot with his best friend Pedro, my favoriten character. I watched it about 100 times and the laughs never go away. Napoleans idiotic dance was a huge hit and this movie got ***(stars) and not ** or *. The movie is so funny and you will laugh so hard it will hurt!

A thousand thank-yous to the team that brought this movie into the world. If you like funky off-beat comedies or if you like movies about nerds, this is the one for you!

I am a 52-year-old dad to a senior in high school who brought home a friend's copy of Napoleon Dynamite, and asked my wife and me to watch it. The first viewing made me almost physically ill. I had been a nerd in High School, and bullied a lot, like Napoleon. Since there is not a large amount of plot in this film, it was easy to insert my own memories of high school into the film. That reflexive identification kept me from clearly seeing what was actually portrayed in the movie. I didn't understand that at the time. All I knew was I felt very uneasy as I saw my own discomfort re-lived on the screen. I was angry that all those rotten experiences had been dredged up and I didn't want to see it again. Lucky for me, my daughter had this DVD on for days. Every time I'd walk by the TV, I catch a scene of Napoleon and Pedro, or maybe Kip, and laugh at the absurdly deadpan delivery. After seeing these bits and pieces often enough, and hearing my daughter quoting some of the funnier (seemingly) throw-away lines ("I caught you a delicious bass...")I started to get the joke. Please watch this a few times, and give some space between the screenings. I think most of you will start to see the great joy of life that the director and the entire cast put into this movie. Now when I watch it, I can't help but laugh at Kip and his hot Internet babe LaFawnda, Pedro's family member "enforcers" and on and on... Napoleon’s dance is brilliant. Give this movie a chance, it grows on you like those family members who drive you nuts, but you know they are trying to be the best people they can be. Once you get to know their lives, and their troubles, their minor achievements become major accomplishments, and like this movie, a cause for celebration

this is the funniest movie ever. No, it may not have a plot, or good acting or anything that would win it an oscar, but who said you need all that to be funny. Just appreciate the movie for what it is. Just stupid humor that will crack you up from beginning until the end. There is a lot of hype around this movie, so don't expect more than dumb humor.

Soo funny, me and my freinds were laghing about it for weeks after seeing it. So dont be such an idiot and buy this.

i feel this movie was good and also just a tad bit pointless. i say it's a good movie because it is inspiring to all the people in the world like napoleon dynamite. it also is very funny and you will never get tired of watching it over and over again. it is pointless because there really isn't any plot at all. other than that, i feel this is a movie to see if you want to relax and just laugh! so, it's a great movie to see.

Alright, I'll admit that it did have some funny parts but mainly, this movie was painful. It left alot of empty holes to the story. Was Napoleon retarded or just slow? Did this movie take place in the 80's? If so, why did Kip have a computer? Why was Pedro running for President? The big climax in this movie was the dance scene. Stupid, stupid, stupid!
