I bought this collection without ever having seen the Mtv show, but was extremely pleased. The show is loosely based on a Mix consisting of the films, ULtimate Spider-Man, and at the least: Classic Spidey. The 3-D animation is like nothing I've ever seen before. The villains are either new or reinvented classics without much story behind them. The show is definitely tailored for the young adult/ college student crowd and IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 17!!! Spidey says to the LIzard:'Hey, know where I can get a little tail?', in one episode for example. This is like an animated Spider-Man version of the old live-action Incredible Hulk show with Bill Bixby and Lou F. for a younger crowd. That said, the first 11 episodes (total: 13) are kind of introducers into the Spidey world for those who aren't hardcore Marvelites. The series is somewhat watered-down and simplistic. Uncle Ben and Aunt May are never mentioned. Any Ultimate Spider-Man lover will enjoy this series. The stories aren't very complex, but still hold an audiences attention after repeated viewings. Spidey's still a wisecracker and exhibits a lot of the same fluid movements in travelling (webslinging) as in the comics. Now, the last two episodes are like a Spider-Man comic book annual and feature some of the villains from previous episodes. The last two episodes are actually a two-part miniseries. This is where the real hardcore spidey story comes into play. There are a lot of twists, turns, and shockers including a cameo voice-over by Stan 'the man' Lee himslef. All in all this DVD has been a lot of fun and very entertaining. Thank You and I hope this review has been somewhat helpful to you, 'NUff said.
