I came across this movie while flipping through the movie channels and hearing Finnish spoken--that's what first peaked my curiosity. I got a VCR copy and thought I'd only watch the last segment that takes place in Finland, spoken in Finn, with subtitles. (I thought I could pick up some useful phrases for my next family reunion.) Instead, I started watching the movie from the beginning. It is thoughtful, sad, and hilarious. The action takes place in five taxies around the world. It starts in LA with Winona Ryder as the cab driver which I found very interesting. If you've ever been in a cab these stories nail that strangely immediate intimate relationship that can develop between the cab driver and you in a few miles. If you watch only one segment watch the Italian segment with Roberto Benini--I am basically a prude but I laughed so hard I fell off my couch. This segment alone is worth the price of the movie. This movie stays with you a while. As I said--strangely compelling.
