Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
Steven Bochco, the man behind the hard-hitting, realistic police dramas Hill Street Blues andNYPD Blue, stretched his über-producer duties into a new realm in 2005: the war story. Debuting on the cable network FX in July 2005, Over There follows a squad of six American soldiers stationed in Iraq, focusing on their different personalities and how they come together to work as a team in the middle of a war zone. Team leader Sgt. Chris "Scream" Silas (ER's Erik Palladino) is joined by Pfc. Bo Rider (Josh Henderson), Pvt. Frank "Dim" Dumphy (Luke MacFarlane), Pvt. Avery "Angel" King (Keith Robinson), Pvt. Maurice "Smoke" Williams (rapper Kirk "Sticky Fingaz" Jones), Pfc. Esmerelda "Doublewide" Del Rio (Lizette Carrion), and Supernatural's Nicki Aycox as Pfc. Brenda "Mrs. B" Mitchell. Realistic violence and the harrowing subject matter -- the first time an American television show fictionalized a current conflict -- may have been too much for viewers. Despite critical acclaim, the FX Network chose not to renew the show for a second season.

An excellent show... although not entirely realistic, the gritty realism of the show does a fair job of showing the emotion of what it was like there...i highly reccomend this show

I think this was a great way for my children to see what mommy and daddy did while "OVER THERE" my child was young and now knows what we did over there and why both her parents were taken from her early in life... She is our blessing and our reason to fight. I hadn't heard of this show until my husband ran into his LT who had all but one episode.. I just had to have a copy for myself...God bless those who serve and watch over those who wait for our return home.

While not completely accurate on all principles of military life/operations while in Iraq and other middle eastern countries, it does give a good representation of the experiences, heartache, and family problems that real soldiers, Airmen, and Marines experience "over there". Strikes a good balance of entertainment and realism while giving a sense of patriotism to those who watch it. You won't be disappointed in this. No, there aren't real "beer runs" in Iraq, but the stress levels and closeness of the troops is almost on point.

i only seen the first episode and right from the beginning i was upset. Actually being "over there" i foud it hilarious how Bo loses his leg on a beer run? thats funny we were never allowed to grab a humvee and leave the base for personal reasons.

This is the Greatest Show ever. Its not real but its what really happens in Iraq. It is very good show. There is allways action in every episode. Even the first one was so thrilling. I personally love it.
