Two average sci-fi geeks get caught up in the ultimate interplanetary adventure after picking up an extraterrestrial during a road trip to Area 51 and becoming the targets of a nationwide manhunt. Graeme (Simon Pegg) and Clive (Nick Frost) are two British sci-fi geeks on holiday in America. After a trip to Comic-Con to meet their favorite author, Adam Shadowchild (Jeffrey Tambor), Graeme and Clive load up their RV and hit the road for a tour of some of the most famous UFO hotspots in the American Southwest. They know we're not alone in the universe, but they won't be satisfied until they get a firsthand glimpse of the famed Area 51. However, somewhere deep in the Nevada desert, the two UFO enthusiasts narrowly avoid crashing into a speeding car when they happen across a most unlikely hitchhiker. Paul (voice of Seth Rogan) is a pint-sized alien who has spent the last 60 years in Area 51. He's been cooped up in the care of the U.S. Government for far too long, and he's starting to get a little homesick. Though Graeme and Clive are more than willing to help their wisecracking new friend get back to his mother ship, Special Agent Zoil (Jason Bateman) of the FBI is closing in fast. And he's not the only one; in their race to get their new friend home, Graeme and Clive have also become unwitting kidnappers, and the enraged father of their not-so-unwilling captive, Ruth (Kristen Wiig), is determined to rescue his daughter at all costs. Sigourney Weaver, Bill Hader, Blythe Danner, and David Koechner co-star.

"Paul" is a hilarious and quirky science fiction film about two comic book fanatics (Graeme Willy and Clive Gollings) that have an unexpected alien encounter that changes their life. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost play characters that have come all the way from England to attend a Comic-Con event that is held in California. Naturally, they also want to explore other parts of America as well. During their road trip they accidently run into an alien that calls himself Paul (voiced by Seth Rogen). The movie starts out with some good humour, but the chances to laugh really increase once Paul persuasively convinces Graeme and Clive to take him to where he needs to go. Jason Bateman plays a scandalous but crafty government agent who is also determined to capture Paul for his own personal ulterior motives. "Paul" is a great movie to watch for those who enjoy films that contain elements of comedy and/or science fiction.

After Shaun, I thought Simon Pegg's movies (and thus his career) were garbage. But he and Nick Frost are back in top gear with Paul. I will say that I "got" very few of the sci-fi references as I only have the first 2 Alien movies and the Hitchhiker's Guide movie and don't read comic books or watch Star Trek etc., but this show was incredibly fun, witty and exciting. There was quite a lot more rough language than I'd expected, but hey, some irreverent humor is good every now and then. Paul looked awesome (when we could see him, haha) and I thought Seth Rogen's voice was perfect for him: forget E.T. and his extremely limited vocabulary, Paul's the most personable alien I've ever seen on the big screen.

It's not quite Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz, but this was really rather funny. I enjoyed it, and it's nice to see Simon Pegg and Nick Frost team up again! They always put out some funny stuff together! I hope they come out together in many more great comedic works in the years to come! Seth Rogen is funny and was great as Paul, and Jason Bateman & Kristen Wiig are always funny. I loved that Sigourney Weaver had a role to play as well, given her history of roles in alien movies. :-) If you're into sci-fi/comedy, or you just like the good ol boys from Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, you should definitely check this movie out. Good times!
